Allo me luvleez

Meeting notes, including decision-making process stuff (some agreed on
Monday, some parked for next week's meeting) can be found at

http://wiki.sheffieldsocialforum.org.uk/8th_August_Matilda_meeting

and pasted below.

Check new proposals. If anyone wants to veto, let us know. In case
no-one knows, vetoing means that you object enough to want to bring the
proposed event or use of space to the next meeting, where you'd have to
discuss why you objected. (Its also a time for people to think up
practical things to do with the event.

It would be great - particularly for the curated art stuff - if people
could add more detail to the WIKI. If anyone wants WIKI lessons, let me
know. In the meantime, if WIKI ain't your bag, e-mail through more
details to the list!

Be good y'all

Proposals for events and new ideas for space

1. Proposal: to open up the space from Oct 29th to Nov 27th for:
1. a fringe event connected to Art Sheffield 05 – to be a curated open
exhibition, including art from people in Matilda and others.
2. To include an opening night on October 27th
3. Show to look at Urban Decay
4. The building will become part of the art!
2. Issues from this:
1. Need to sort out health and safety
3. Proposal: dissent meeting to be hosted by MATILDA. Some time in
October, could be about 60 people
4. Proposal: Performance, rehearsal and research for social / local
history. Done by the people who bought us the recent Chartist
dramatisations in Paradise Square
1. Suggestion from this: could research the history of the building...
5. Proposal: acoustic open mike night – keeping the Thursday social
separate. Maybe doing once a fortnight on a Friday.
6. Proposal: OPPOSE THE WIDENING OF THE M1 - Meeting Tuesday 16th
August, 7.30
7. Proposal: create a piece of collective artwork

Results of group work on decision-making and groundrules

We brainstormed decision-making processes and groundrules processes.
Some were clear cut, which we agreed could become instantly live (unless
anyone complains in the next week!) Others have been parked until the
next meeting. Live ones first, parked after

Agreed

* Keep WIKI updated
* No quorum needed – veto and consensus instead
* ”Weekly meetings plus 7, vetos explained at next meeting”??
* Publicised, larger meetings as and when necessary
* All processes to be outlined and explained on the WIKI

Parked

Some of these need working out, as they clash e.g. A week's automatic
'take-a-break' or just 24 hours? Etc... to discuss at next meeting.

1. If groundrules broken:
1. Verbal warning first, from group present at the time
2. Warning fed into whole group at a meeting

Minimum initial 24 hour break from the space for the warned person

1.
1. Default of ban for a week
2. If someone asks for one day ban extended, will be taken to next meeting
3. Depending on case, ban til next meeting
4. Make possibility of a total ban oper
5. Reparations for damage
6. Special role of the LTT, for now
7. Potential use of mediation / independent pool of willing mediators to
call on, if thought appropriate
8. A third offence should be met with an automatic permanent ban
9. Existing bans are continued until the following Monday's meeting
10. Nothing to be set in stone!

1. Groundrules additions and changes
1. Re-phrase 'violence' into 'security', 'access'
2. No disturbing or disruption of events taking place in the space

AOB

1. Fire escape – a new one needs to be built in the basement. This has
started to be planned out.
2. Report back from different groups – all is well!
3. Meetings:
1. 7.30 for 7.45 start from now on. To arrive at 7.30 to make your tea,
smoke fags etc. Meeting will start at 7.45. (People are coming from as
far a field as Chesterfield; they are having to hang around for half an
hour before things start.)
2. It is the facilitator's role to start exactly on time, at 7.45, and
up to everyone else to be there!
3. Facilitators to overlap: always have two, and keep one over to the
next week.

Next meeting

* 7.30 for 7.45 – see above!
* 7.15 for discussiing the agenda
* Stick agenda items here or bring 'em at 7.15.
* Facilitation by J and L
