And speaking of which (produce and harvesting), now that some produce is ready to start harvesting, I need everyone to keep track of how much you're producing and harvesting.
By weight, or guesstimate of weight, and by type of produce, and/or can do a head count.
This helps us to get an idea of how much we've grown this year, which helps with funding and with keeping the program going.
Cleveland produces about $1,000,000 of produce per year from their 209 community gardens. I don't know if we'll ever match that, but we're going to have a great time trying, eh?
We're headed for some hot weather this weekend so expect your tomatoes and peppers to start ripening very quickly. I know they've been sitting on our plants, green, for a week or two but ripening either not at all or very slowly. It's been too cool, but supposed to hit the 90's this weekend.
Other things, like zucchini, squash, Julie's Kohlrabi, ripen sooner. Something in our soil we don't grow zucchini and cucumbers well, but we have a friend on Manchester who's brought over 3-4 zucchini that must measure1' - 2' in length and perhaps 3"-4" in diameter ! We've already had several loaves of great bread! But we have tomatoes galore!!! And pumpkins!
Thanks for the great news, Julie!!!
Enjoy the harvests!!
Larry
