[Akroncooperative-news] A Valiant Effort

After being selected by the University Park Alliance to receive a brand new Schwinn Meridian Adult Tricycle, the Akron Cooperative was asked to put together a 3 person team to ride in a short relay race around Grace Park. We were to race against the other two recipients - LINKS and ASIA, both University of Akron student assistance groups.

Our team, consisting of myself, one of our board members, Dana, and one of our adamant supporters, Sean, put forth a valiant effort. I should have taken the Taoist advice and gone last so that we could end up first because, upon reflection, the first bike off the starting line had a marked advantage. I got us off to a slow start. But then Dana was able to bring us up to second place during his lap around the park, and we all think Sean could have pulled off the lead but for the spectators lining the track which made it impossible for him to get around and pass the lead.

In any case, it was a great race; everyone had a great time, and we really do think that the student group that won the $500 (LINKS) most likely needed the money more than we did.

Thank you again, Dana and Sean, and thank you to the supporters who showed up to cheer us on.
