Comment by Lawrence A. Parker: To the Stinner Conference Workgroup

Do you understand now why I have been pushing for re-defining and re-educating the public about proper year-round diets based on locally grown, in-season foods?

My target people, the people which The Akron Cooperative serves, are urban residents who suffer from juvenile obesity and diabetes, who die from heart attacks (as I almost did) and strokes - the avoidable, diet-related illnesses of which Jamie Oliver speaks so passionately.

Perhaps our conference on extending locally-grown food to year-round accessibility is not the specific place and time when we should be discussing the foods we need vs. the foods we've been taught to want.  I think it is.  But if it's not, then we need another conference, and quickly.

Look at our website, www.akroncooperative.com.  [1] What Jamie says we need - desperately - constitutes our mission statement, goals, and programs.  The Akron Cooperative was created a year ago to address these problems and to remedy these needs.

To the Conference workgroup: Can we try to get Jamie Oliver as our keynote and provocative speaker?
