Hey ana,

Open Document Format (OASIS Open Document Format for Office Application)
is publicly-documented format used by OpenOffice. See:
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=office

M$ have implemented a thing called Office Open XML as the default format
for new versions of word. They've also managed (somehow) to get OOXML
format accepted by the ISO as a standard document format despite it not
being vendor-neutral, compliant with existing standards (date formats,
colour codes etc.), or guaranteed to be supported for any length of
time. More at:
http://www.fsfeurope.org/documents/msooxml-questions.en.html

Oh and there's also ODA (Open Document Architecture). See:
http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-T.411/en

Cheers,
Charlie
