Stand in solidarity with Toronto G20 prisoners and rally against police
and state repression.
***Demonstration This Friday at noon, Canadian Embassy***

The Toronto G20 saw over 1,000 arrested with hundreds if not thousands
detained, often with illegal or coerced search and seizure. A number of
those detained and arrested were beaten, intimidated, sexually assaulted
and threatened with rape. Police used violent racial and ethnic targeting
throughout the weekend. This marked the largest mass arrest in Canadian
history. And the justification for an eye-watering $930 million security
budget.

18 Toronto community organizers remain charged with conspiracy. They are
currently being denied basic civil liberties and face harsh sentences if
convicted. These arrests are meant to deter dissent and condemn those who
enact their right to protest.

Right now, the Canadian police are studying their successes to prepare a
profile of best practices to be sent to police forces abroad. Police had
been infiltrating organisations for over a year in the lead up to the G20
and are now soliciting the public to become informants, largely through
the use of social media. These are the policing tactics of the future.

>From Ian Tomlinson to Toronto, police and state repression needs to stop.
While US leaders and their hand-picked allies meet behind closed doors, we
at least expect the right to raise our voices and hopes against their wars
and economic cut-backs.

Since last month’s protest the need for public pressure continues. We are
calling for a solidarity demonstration outside the Canadian Embassy, west
side of Trafalger Square, Friday 6th August 2010 at noon. Show the
Canadian government that it can no longer pose as an international
champion of human rights.
