hey up,

Cuts Cafe is happening in Leeds from the 31st of January to the 6th of
February, it would be great if people from london wanted to come up. There
will be places to crash if you need to, let me know

Also, there is still space for people to organise workshops or to
contribute to anyway.

Cuts cafe is a week long occupation where we will be exploring the
changing values that determine how space, buildings and resources are used
– beginning in the city we live in. We will be occupying a city centre
space that has major plans for redevelopment, promoting profit over
people. We want to create an alternative Leeds where the diverse needs and
desires of residents, not corporate interest, determine the way space is
used.
Workshops on privatisation, housing, education, redevelopment and the NHS.

There is a facebook event -
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=143071402416936&ref=ts
But if you dont use facefuck and want for information, let me know and i
can pass it on.

Cuts Cafe statement

We’re
here because the cuts are yet more of the same. More government making
it easier for companies to make even bigger profits by handing them the
public sector, removing regulations that protect us, forcing us into
flexible, low-paid jobs and gentrifying the city. These cuts are targeted
at the most
vulnerable, they’re going to make life a lot worse.

...but not defending the state nor its taxes
we’re not here because we thought life before the cuts was a bed of
roses. Far from it. The state that provides services that we rely on,
like the NHS, is the same state that polices every aspect of our lives,
takes us into wars at its pleasure and defends big corporations at all
costs. And while we might need welfare, perfect it’s not. We’re treated
like dole scum for collecting barely enough to live on when there’s no
good jobs about . We’re told that education is all about passing exams. And
nor are we fighting for higher taxes to “fund the deficit”. While it’s
telling that the rich pay the least taxes, we’re not calling for more
money to bolster a system we can’t stand. Nor do we think that increased
spending to “boost long-term economic growth” will benefit anyone but
big business.

Fighting for a real alternative
We’re
here because we know that if we don’t push back, we’ll be pushed over.
But we’re not fighting for the past. We’re fighting for a future where
we’re in control of our lives, where we’re able to look after each other
without relying on the state. We’re here for a world based on
cooperation not competition, a world that’s not somewhere off in the
future but that we’re creating in the present. And that’s what we’re
fighting for when we fight the cuts.

please pass on to other lists...
