Dear Anarchafeminists
We'd like to invite you to attend SlutWalk Manchester on the 10th of June.
As you're probably aware, on the 24th of January 2011, a Toronto policeman told a group of law students that in order to avoid being raped "women should avoid dressing like sluts".
This sparked protest and outrage around the world because this statement represents an attitude in our society. That if we behave or dress in certain ways, we deserve to be raped.
SlutWalk Manchester says that nobody deserves rape. If we wear revealing clothes. If we are drunk. If we walk home alone late at night. If we flirt with you. If we are married to you. If we are sex workers. If we defy gender norms. We firmly believe that rape is NEVER the fault of the survivor.
SlutWalk Manchester does not just fight against rape, it fights against all forms of sexual assault and harassment, right down to the last time you were shouted at or 'complimented' by a stranger in the street. We are tired of being oppressed by slut-shaming, of being judged by our sexuality and feeling unsafe as a result. SlutWalk Manchester aims to fight sexism and promote feminism.
Come as you are. Wear what you want. Skate if you want. Bring banners and megaphones. March. Fight back.
We will be meeting at 7pm on Friday the 10th of June outside Manchester Town Hall.
Open to all genders.
The after-event (9pm-midnight) is free entry and will have a speakers' corner. Please drop as a line if you'd like to speak.
We're aware that this is a controversial event and as part of SlutWalk Manchester we are also organizing reading groups to discuss the wider implications and issues surrounding this event, such as race and class. Details will be released soon.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you'd like more information or have access inquiries.
We hope to see you there,
SlutWalk Manchester team
Ps. Pleas cyculat the above email afir and wide. Rely hop to see some people at it from manchester, the NW and all of the UK (any if anyones rely exsied the world)

SlutWalk Discussion Group and Banner Making Thursday,
June 9 · 6:30pm - 9:30pm
The Feminist Library
5a Westminster Bridge Road,
London
SE1 7XW
http://feministlibrary.co.uk/2011/06/04/slutwalk-discussion-group-and-banner-making/
This is designed as a follow on discussion to the meeting facilitated by
Feminist Fightback at Bishopsgate Institute on Wednesday 1st June.
Everyone is welcome, even if you’re new to the discussion.
SlutWalk London will take place on 11 June 2011. The London march occurs
just months after the first SlutWalk took place in Toronto in response to
a local police officer’s claim that ‘women should avoid dressing like
sluts’ if they want to minimise the chance of being raped.
SlutWalk has attracted a rare degree of mainstream press coverage and
provoked much debate among feminists. Do we want to use the word slut? Has
SlutWalk been co-opted by the media, just as riot grrl was commodified as
‘girl power’? Does SlutWalk reflect white privilege? Is it just another
example of feminism as consumerism? Or do these questions forget the most
important thing: that an energetic wave of activism against victim blaming
is happening? The Feminist Library has no collective position on SlutWalk.
This meeting is designed to facilitate debate.
We will begin with a general debate, and then we’ll split into smaller
discussion groups. After the discussion, the evening will develop into a
banner making workshop for those wishing to march on Saturday 11th. Please
bring your own materials if you want to make a banner. If you make up your
mind during the event, we’re sure we can fit you in and find you things.
If you have any questions, please contact us at

Unfortunately, we have restricted disabled access, so please also contact
us to see how we can help.
