The Flyer Text:
MEET THE ANARCHISTS!
* Anarchism like Socialism, has a long and rich history as a radical workers'
movement and political philosophy, from the First International, to the Spanish
Revolution in 1936, to the Zapatista’s today in Chiapas.
* Anarchists, like Socialists, recognise the self-organisation of the working
class as the driving force of rev...olutionary social, economic and political change.
* Anarchists, like Socialists, believe in a
classless, stateless society based on the principle ''from each according to
their ability, to each according to their need''.
* Anarchists, like Socialists, are committed
Anti-fascists.
So what's the problem?
Historcially, Anarchists have been at the forefront
of political and social change and progressive thought, their role often
overlooked and suppressed. Today, 'Anarchist methodology' shines through in the
decentralised and autonomous way that UK Uncut organises, as well as in the
recent university occupations (e.g. UCL and London Met) and the Spanish 15M
mass assemblies, with their emphasis on a leaderless, non-hierarchical
movement, self-organised spaces and consensus-based decision making. It is
these sorts of practical applications that highlight how Anarchism is
influencing current social struggles.
Anarchists maintain that the people will always
understand their own material conditions better than any political party can
ever do on their behalf, and that as such, the people are best placed to
confront and overthrow Capitalism, without the interference or mediation of
political parties, whatever form they take.
The fact that such diverse movements are today
openly organising free from traditional top-down structures show how potent and
viable Anarchist ideas are in the current political climate.
We invite you to come and find out more on SATURDAY
