Hello

http://dalefarm.wordpress.com/

We are leaving for Spain - now - and very aware we are not going to be able to do what we're asking you to do
but I wanted to encourage as many people as I know to "walk the talk" and go to Dale Farm to show solidarity and support for the families who are under immediate threat of eviction. [Expected to start from 12th Sept, but legal observers needed NOW.]

We were up there last week and the call out is serious and urgent - they particularly need folk to do legal observing, to be part of the defences, and also just to be there.

I thought there would be a huge number of people supporting - to show that we are not all traveller-hating boneheaded Sun readers who think they deserve a kicking - but there were not so many.

I think it is vital that those of us who care sufficiently transfer our ideas into action and that we are prepared to stand up and defend people and their homes, to put our nice ideas about "solidarity" and
"anti-racism" into action when its happening on our doorstep.

A few years ago I went to Dale Farm to meet with some of the amazing women who live there. It was shortly after several yards at the nearby Hovefield site had been evicted, so we went to take a look. The
bailiffs had flattened everything with their "big machines" and the detritus of people's lives were left scattered about their yards, blowing in the wind. It was a pretty horrible sight. Forcing people off
their land, trashing their possessions.

If anyone's interested I wrote a little piece with a colleague for PN at the time - you can see it here in the archive: http://peacenews.info/issues/2475-76/247508.html

Many of us will know a thing or two about evictions, have experience in resisting them, and have also witnessed bailiffs chucking stuff into munchers and bulldozing site structures.

If you can go to Dale Farm and show solidarity ...If you can take your experience and pitch in to actively support resistance to eviction ...If you can take your legal observing experience ...

Please do!

Thanks for reading

Ippy
