Dear Friends,
"We are united in believing that every woman, and every person, has a
right to participate in the struggle for social and environmental
justice, without fear of persecution, objectification, or interference
in their lives."
If you agree with this, and you know other people who do too, please
help us spread the word. Eight women are resisting police attempts to
strike out their legal action over undercover police abuse. They take
this action in solidarity with all the individuals and organisations
that have been affected by undercover policing.
Please support them:

======= What's this hearing about?
Eight women are taking legal action against the police after being
deceived into relationships with undercover officers.
At the preliminary hearing on Tuesday 18 March 2014 - Wednesday 19 March
2014:
* Five of the women will face an attempt by the police to have their
common law claims struck out. The police claim that as they can 'neither
confirm, nor deny' (NCND) anything about undercover policing, the trial
should not proceed.
* These are the common law claims of "deceit, assault, misfeasance in
public office and negligence" made by the women who were deceived into
long-term intimate relationships with undercover officers.
* The police are also applying (should their application for a
strike-out fail) for secrecy measures against the women's case.
* For more information on the background on the case, see
http://policespiesoutoflives.org.uk/the-case-overview/
======= What can I do?
(these actions can be done from anywhere in the world)
* Gather with your friends in solidarity
* Support us on social media (see the end of this email)
* Print and hand out or display leaflets (available on the website)
* Sign up to the supporters' email list
* Add your name to the 'Where We Stand' solidarity statement
* If you are a journalist or blogger, write articles about the case -
ask to be added to the press list
* For more details of all these actions, see the website post here:
http://policespiesoutoflives.org.uk/solidarty-action-march-2014
======= When can I show support outside the court itself?
(the hearing itself will take place in London, UK)

We have just discovered that LSE is having a so-called 'Opening' tmrw eve (Wed at 7pm) for The Women's Library. 300 people have been invited; among those NOT invited are 9 out of 10 members of the recently formed Feminist and Women's Libraries and Archives Network (FLA), ex-members of staff who worked there for over 10 years, former academics from London Met who dedicated many hours of their time to support the Women's Library . the list goes on. At the picket we will be asking what this says about the LSE's commitment to continuing the Women's Library's tradition of openness and acknowledging its proud past and feminist future.
We will be assembling in Portugal Street outside the Main Library from 6pm.
Hope you can join us.
Gail and Kathy, on behalf of FLA

The 2014 Gathering!
*Update: this year's Radical Herbalism Gathering in June*
Dear folks,
We are planning this year's gathering with much excitement and positivity.
This newsletter has lots of bits of news relating to the gathering,
including programme & practical info, and also about how you can connect
with us in different ways and participate in our collective radical
herbalism.
*New dates*
The 2014 gathering will take place over the weekend of *Saturday 7**th** &
Sunday 8**th** of June at Crabapple Housing Co-op near Shrewsbury. *You can
book your place at
*http://www.radicalherbalism.org.uk/2014-gathering/book-tickets/*
*Response to 2013 gathering*
We'd like to invite your *feedback* on last year's event, in particular
around things like accessibility and any practical issues you might have
faced in coming to the festival. It will be great to hear from you about
how we can improve the gathering in this respect. Please send your feedback
to *info at radicalherbalism.org.uk*
*New website & bookings*
We have a new website at
*www.radicalherbalism.org.uk*and
we invite you to come have a look if you haven't already. Info about
this year's gathering will be posted up there as it comes together, and you
can *book your tickets now* through the booking form on the site. We are
offering a sliding scale like last year, with the ticket price range from
?40 to ?80.
We are offering 10 bursary places to people who are unemployed/unwaged or
low waged i.e. people who would not otherwise be able to come to the
gathering. (We can consider support with travel costs as well). There is
information on the website about the bursaries and how to apply.
*Networks*
We are setting up a radical herbalism *Google Group* from the email lists
gathered at the end of last year's gathering, if you'd like to be part of
it, or otherwise, let us know. The group will be a communication tool
between us all to share knowledge and ideas about each other's projects and
keep the momentum and contact going, this desire was expressed at the
closing plenary last year.
We are planning to put together a *zine* for the 2014 gathering, and we
seek contributions for it! Send us your writing, artwork or other creations
connected with radical herbalism.
Another element of the gathering this year will be to build up a *solidarity
medicine chest*, available for campaigns and protest camps. We're looking
for donations of medicines towards this so anything that you can give is
appreciated.
If you've been looking at the website you'll have seen we're
developing the *resources
section* from the map that you all contributed to last year. This lists our
collective projects around the country including community herbalism,
growing projects and radical practitioners. Please send us your details and
the kind of project you are if you want to be included in the lists so we
can keep the networks active.
*At the gathering this year*
If you are wondering about *volunteering* at the gathering in place of
paying, we'd like to say that this is a grassroots DIY gathering and we ask
that everyone who comes does their bit. The organising collective are all
working voluntarily. We cannot offer free entry for volunteering but we
will be offering meal tickets for dedicated support roles. Info will be up
on the website about volunteer activity that we will be looking for over
the weekend.
We are putting together the weekend's programme at the moment. We really
welcome any offers of *workshops* that relate to the gathering. Please get
in touch via workshops at radicalherbalism.org with an outline of what you
have in mind and a few words about how you think the workshop you want to
bring relates to/sits in the context of the gathering. We'll look at all
the workshop offers in March-April and figure out what is possible this
year. The programme is already looking pretty full, if we can't fit
everything into this gathering please let us know if we can keep your
workshop in mind for the next one. We do provide a ticket and travel costs
for those running workshops and encourage everyone to attend the whole
event.
The 2014 gathering will begin in a similar vein to last year, with a
*plenary* explaining why we are holding a Radical Herbal Gathering and why
we believe it is so important to put herbal medicine and health in the
context of social change. For this reason we would be really happy if you
can get to the gathering in time to be at the opening plenary at 10am on
Saturday morning which will introduce the themes of the weekend.
*This year we are going to weave together four streams of ideas:*
The first strand, will focus on workshops that offer *radical approaches to
health* in general, specifically looking at psycho-emotional health,
women's health, the use of psychotropic medicine, and alternative ideas
around birth and death.
The second strand will focus on workshops that discuss ideas around* ecological
justice* and the sustainability of conventional medicine and herbal
medicine, including the use of our native herbs.
The third strand will focus on workshops that talk about *health and social
justice issues*, for example solidarity with migrants, global corporate
violence to indigenous land and medicine, the health implications of all
the proposed fracking sites, and mutual aid within the herbal world.
We will also have a strand focused specifically on *practical herbal
medicine* which will involve herbal medicine making workshops, herbal
medicine basics, growing herbs, herbal first aid and using bodywork in
herbal medicine. Alongside all of these, there will be herb walks and
foraging walks in the surrounding countryside.
We will post a confirmed workshop schedule by the beginning of May.
There will be a *DIY kidspace* with workshops and activities, created by
attenders - please note this is not to be a cr?che. There will also be
a *wellbeing
space* for quiet time during the weekend.
We have a list of common questions on the website so if you need to know
more practical details go to
*http://www.radicalherbalism.org.uk/2014-gathering/frequently-asked-questions/*
We are really looking forward to getting together with you all again, and
look out for updates on the website.

Friends and comrogues,
We'd like to invite you to the MayDay rooms (88 Fleet Street) on March 30th
at 3pm to discuss calling a May Day demonstration at Senate House,
University of London.
As you know, the University of London has made itself a focus of antagonism
over the past year. The militancy of the outsourced workers, which led to
the inspiring strikes and demonstrations of the 3 Cosas campaign, was
matched only by the vicious retaliation of management, in collaboration
with the cops. After 9 months of arrests, picket lines, fist fights, court
cases, kettles, demonstrations, sit ins and non-compliance, the future of
the workers' and students' struggles still hangs in the balance. But what
marks this moment out as different from many struggles we have been
involved in before, is that the struggles of students and workers have
become intertwined not only in the minds of management, but also on the
streets.
Management are on the back foot, unable to maintain discipline without the
brutality of the Met, but acutely aware that their attempts to violently
repress dissent have in fact generated MORE dissent, as story after story
of authoritarian insanity go viral. While they flounder, our methods are
diversifying: smash and grab raids on their offices, leaking embarrassing
documents to the national press, crowd-sourcing funds so that strikes that
can keep going, retaliatory campaigns against violent security bosses, and
regular paint-bombing just to brighten things up. They didn't realise how
lucky they were when we were just making noise and using chalk. Our
continued success, though, depends on constant escalation.
This fight was always about more than the university. It has caught the
attention of and inspired people across the city, and indeed across the
country. Why? Because it speaks directly to low paid and precarious
workers. Because the recent struggles have dared to be radical in demanding
pensions and sick pay even while public sector workers are having theirs
attacked. Because they show that we can fight beyond and against as well as
through the big unions and their Glorious Leaders. Because it didn't take a
Sky News poll to tell us that most people in this country hate the cops!
It is for these reasons that we want to call a demonstration/ disruption/
manifestation on International Workers Day which represents the passion and
desires of the precarious, the low paid, the zero-houred, the part-timed,
the temporaried, the unemployed, the workfared, the sacked, the redundant,
the indebted.
If you're interested, please come along and help plan for this. The only
decision so far has been that we want to call it on campus - everything
else is still up for grabs.
*!Please extend this invite to trusted comrades!*
Hasta la victoria, companeros!
