</span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Mothers’
Campaign for Family Reunion (MoCa) and Single Mothers’ Self-Defence invite
you to join a Mothers’ Vigil in support of Peace Musabi, one of MoCa’s
founder members, who is fighting to be reunited with her children. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Seven years ago, Ms Musabi fled rape and
other torture in Burundi after being forced to leave her three surviving
children in the care of a trusted friend. He then came under threat and sent
the children to a relative before disappearing. Ms Musabi could not find
where the children were. She claimed asylum in the UK and only in 2007 was
granted the right to stay in the UK. Despite being unable to go back to
Burundi, Ms Musabi searched relentlessly for her children, and two years ago
found them safe in Uganda. She has been pressing the Home Office to allow the
children to join her, but so far they have callously refused. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Jeto Flaviah, a co-founder of the <a href="http://www.allwomencount.net/EWC%20Immigrant/MothersCampaignAAWG.htm" target="_blank">Mothers’
Campaign</a> says: </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">“</span><i><span style="font-size: 12pt;" lang="EN-US">Every meal we eat
we think of whether our children have eaten; not one day passes without our
worry that they are </span></i><i><span style="font-size: 12pt;">being abused or suffering violence. We live in this
country with our hearts bleeding, but our love for our children keeps us
fighting. </span></i><span style="font-size: 12pt;" lang="EN-US">” </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">“<i>Being an asylum seeker is just a label,
we are the same as any other mother; we feel the same love, the same
heartache, the same longing to protect our children. </i></span><i><span style="font-size: 12pt;" lang="EN-US">Our
hopes are pinned on this hearing, not only for Peace, a loving mother, and
her precious children, but for all mothers suffering the pain of separation.”</span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Kim Sparrow of <a href="http://www.allwomencount.net/AWC/SingleMothersPage.htm" target="_blank">Single Mothers’
Self-Defence</a>, comments:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><i><span style="font-size: 12pt;">“Despite all the talk about the importance
of families, children are being denied their mothers’ love and protection.
As mothers we try to do our best for our children in increasingly
difficult circumstances; and some of us suffer separation as we flee war,
persecution, rape or domestic violence, or because of poverty. We have
witnessed Ms Musabi’s pain when she couldn’t locate the children, her
determination to leave no stone unturned until she found them, her joy and
relief when she got news that they were alive, and her distress at the Home
Office refusal to allow them to join her. What is more important than
the survival and wellbeing of children, and the caring work of mothers to
ensure their wellbeing? We cannot allow this traumatised family to
continue to be torn apart in this way.”</span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Please
join us on Thursday and show support for Ms Musabi and other mothers in
similar situations. </span></p>
