Hi r7,

I wanted to touch base with you to discuss some of the issues that have
come up for free distros recently, and learn more about how BLAG is
coming along in addressing these issues. You might have already heard
about some (or even all!) of this elsewhere, and if so, that's great --
then my questions will be easier to answer. :)

First, we wrote up guidelines for free system distributions at
<http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html>,
and have made some updates to them recently. Even with the changes,
most of the issues here won't be any problem for the existing distros.
Probably the biggest thing to note that *might* be is that all
information for practical use -- not just software -- needs to be
free. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Second, the folks on the gnu-linux-libre list have been working on a
list of software to complement these guidelines; stuff that causes one
problem or another for free distributions. That's at
<http://groups.fsf.org/wiki/Software_blacklist>.

Is there any kind of roadmap for future BLAG development and/or releases
right now? I was checking the mailing list and forums, and things seem
pretty quiet right now.  And there's nothing really wrong with that;
it's plenty understandable under the circumstances. It would mainly
just be helpful to know what kind of timeline we can expect freeness
issues to be addressed on, if any are found.

And if you need anything from us, let me know -- we're here to help.

Best regards,
