What is BLAG?

Let's focus on the name. The recursive acronym that has stood for so long.

(Brixton Linux Action Group) > (BLAG) Linux And GNU

I have been around BLAG since the start. Vasco (Weyasey) around shortly
after. It is many years now. Back when BLAG 7992 was around. When BLAG
had webmail on Jeff's server. Before the Indymedia.

A time when we would all burn 50 copies of a distro and before you knew
it, the new on was out. I recall sitting there all night burning with
that crap CD burner and handing out copies. Many still being used now on
older machines.

A lot of people moved on from BLAG and no longer post, no longer
develop, no longer participate but you can bet your last dollar they all
still sit there watching this mailing list.

BLAG is not a dead horse, we have no need for a radical change. You guys
do an amazing job with the distro and that is the selling point. I use
BLAG not because of the site but because of what you guys do with the
distro. Full kudos to you all. I, along with a lot of others, suck at
developing. You guys do not.

The appeal of BLAG idea is the roughness and the desire. Blaggers are
guys you go rockclimbing with armed with nothing but a backpack with a
Thinkpad in and a can of soda. They are guys you sit in confined areas
with at 3am trying to fix something while your wife is at home nagging
you because you got work at 8am.

Wordpress is not that. Rough HTML is.

What will Wordpress bring you? A new editing tool to learn, introducing
another database needlessly and what IF it one day was not Open Source?
What about 0day exploits? They do happen.

And what about the day it is not updated? Who wants to see a BLAG site
with the last post being two months ago? It is bad form.

It appears people want a website that has new content daily. Well that
is not too difficult to envisage without using Wordpress.

Why don't we keep our site the way it is, then introduce a pane on the
site that pulls forum posts into it. Not just any forum posts but posts
from a special forum.

Our forums.

You see we can make a sub-forum in there called Tips, Tricks or whatever
you were planning for the front page. When you post in it, that header
will appear on our page. The most recent five or six only.

That way all you guys got to do is make a new thread when you have
something else to share. We can all reply to it on the forums without
changing our system and we keep things really simple.

BLAG is BLAG because you guys are blaggers. Never lose track of that
because you guys are amazing just the way you are.

Just my 98 cents short of a dollar.
