Hi guys, just to let you know.

It seems that next september 7th Brazil is going to have a huge protest
against corruption. After another shameful and unpunished case of corruption
in the congress (more info at the end) that seems to have waken people up.

The incredible thing is that this protest is being organised by society in
general, people is just creating events on facebook to call their friends to
the protest. At the begining we thought that it was an isolated case but
there is a massive internet activism going on right now, hundreds of groups
and social movements have being contacting each other to get united for the
day.

Its impossible to measure how many people is going to join the event,
because they are not concentrating the invitations in just one event (we
think this is fabulous), so we are going to have to wait to see it.

September 7th is the celebration of Brazil's independency, this day is
famous because of the military shows that take place arround the country. We
don't fear any violence, the protests are being organised far from the
military shows and every group is concerning about promoting a peaceful
event. People is being invited to wear black clothes this day, so if they
can't be in the demonstration they can show around that they are also
against corruption.

I will put here some links for more information, everything in Portuguese
sorry.

More about the corruption case that put society in fire.

By a vote of 265 to 166 with 20 abstentions, the Chamber of Deputies decided
to dismiss a charge of misconduct (“quebra de decoro”) against federal
deputy Jaqueline Roriz, who could have lost her seat in Congress if the
motion had been approved.

Ms Roriz is the daughter of a politician who faced his own corruption case
in 2007 and decided to resign his seat in the Senate rather than face
forfeiture of office.

The case against Jaqueline Roriz was based on a videotape showing her and
her husband receiving stacks of money from Durval Barbosa, an official in
the Brasilia (“Distrito Federal - DF”) administration. According to Barbosa,
who later turned state witness in a huge DF corruption case known as
Pandora’s Box (“Caixa de Pandora”), the money he gave Jaqueline was a payoff
for political support and it came from illegal overbilling of government
contracts.
