[Cc-webedit] Text for website

Hi all,

I've put together some text for the website - a compilation of different
pieces of text which were submitted to Amelia a couple of weeks ago. Thanks
to all who contributed. It covers: what happens at camp; consensus;
neighbourhoods; what to bring/not to bring (including stuff about food,
dogs, children). This was based on the bits of text I had - Amelia, I don't
know if you have others which might cover other areas?

I'm submitting it to the list for people to point out any glaring omissions
or misrepresentations. However I think at this stage the key thing is just
to get the text up as soon as possible, so please bear that in mind. Perhaps
we should give 48 hours for people to point out any massive problems, then
Neil or Jonathan can get it up on the website?

Other sections which this doesn't cover, which we need to have text about,
are: i) getting to the camp, ii) direct action (what it is, why we do it -
briefly!). There is a section about the history of camp already on the
website (under 'about') which I think is quite good.

Also, apologies that I've been quite slow on this.

All the best,
Liam

*For neighbourhoods page (in place of current text):*

In tune with our grassroots philosophy, Climate Camp is organized by local
groups, called *neighbourhoods*.

We have eleven neighbourhoods covering the length and breadth of the
country, from Scotland to the South Coast. Each neighbourhood is responsible
for mobilizing people locally, fundraising, and building its own
infrastructure at the camp. This includes a marquee for meetings, workshops
and socializing, a field kitchen, off-grid power such as a wind turbine or
solar panels, and compost loos.

Your local neighbourhood is preparing for the camp now - come along to a
meeting and get involved! Whatever your skills, whatever your experience,
however much time you have to offer – you’re sure to be welcomed. We need
carpenters, cooks, drivers, electricians; people to wash up, to help with
recycling, to put up marquees; and anyone who can contribute to the safe and
happy running of the camp.

Click on the link below to find out about your local neighbourhood, for
information about local meetings, and to sign up on facebook.

*What happens at the camp? (not sure where this should go)*

The camp is a place where we put into practice the four guiding principles
of Climate Camp: education, sustainable living, movement-building, and
direct action. It’s not just about protest; it’s about building our vision
of the future, in the here and now. We make friends and exchange ideas in
workshops, campfire discussions, everyday site maintenance, skills shares,
dancing, meetings, film showings, toilet queues, kitchens, dawn gate duties,
and all those indefinable moments in between. We have a serious message, but
we also have a lot of fun along the way.

In previous years, the camp has culminated in a mass ‘day of action’ against
a power station or airport. This year is going to be a little bit different,
because there won’t be a mass action at the end of the camp. Instead, our
focus will be learning skills and making plans for an ‘autumn of action’ in
the run-up to the UN climate talks at Copenhagen this December. Come to the
camp to meet like-minded people and plan the action that is right for you.
And watch this space for news of our exciting mass action at a coal-fired
power station on 24 October…

Climate Camp 2009: Team up. Get trained. Take action.

*How we make decisions at the Camp (not sure where this should go)*

All decisions at Climate Camp are taken by *consensus*. This is a way of
making decisions that allows everybody to participate and have ownership
over the camp. Our meetings are led by trained facilitators who have
experience of building consensus in groups of up to several hundred people.

Consensus decision-making creates a noticeable sense of community among all
campers, as we all work together on an equal footing and learn from each
other. You’ll find yourself volunteering for things you never thought you’d
do – from cleaning out toilets to being interviewed on television.

*What to bring and what to leave at home (not sure where this should go)*

* *

For the true Climate Camp experience, we encourage you to bring a tent and
stay for the week. If you’re going to be camping, the following items are
essential: a tent, sleeping bag, roll mat, practical all-weather clothing,
pens and notebooks, a good book, a torch, a sun hat, a warm hat, gloves, sun
cream, a plate, bowl, cup, cutlery… and as many friends as you can!

We also need equipment for the day-to-day running of the camp. Please get in
touch with your local neighbourhood group if you have a marquee, tarpaulin,
banner-making materials, kitchen equipment, tool kits, or anything else
which might be useful.

*Food* will be provided by local neighbourhoods – all you need to bring is a
plate and cutlery. Get in touch with your neighbourhood to find out how you
can help with cooking and setting up the kitchen.

*Children *are welcome, and there will be plenty to entertain them in our
dedicated kids area.

*Dogs* are discouraged (except guide dogs). If you have to bring one, please
keep it on a lead at all times and make sure to clean up after it.
