1. FINAL DETAILS FOR HEBDEN NATIONAL GATHERING THIS WEEKEND

VENUE
The venue is Hebden Hey hostel, Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge, West
Yorkshire, HX7 7AW.

The nearest train station is Hebden Bridge. The hostel is about an hour's
scenic country walk from the train station (see route description below).
We will also provide a shuttle bus from the station to the hostel.

TIMINGS
The gathering will run from 11am-7pm on Saturday 23rd (with welcome from
10am), and 10am-4pm on Sunday 24th. This is slightly later than usual to
allow you time to enjoy the countryside.

If you are arriving on Friday you'll be able to get into the hostel from
6pm.

ACCOMMODATION
Crashpad accommodation will be available at the hostel on Friday and
Saturday nights, and at Height Gate hostel on Sunday night for those who
wish to stay an extra day (the Monday is a bank holiday). Please email
gathering[at]climatecamp.org.uk with which nights you expect to need
accommodation so that we have an idea of numbers. You will need to bring a
sleeping bag.

There is also room for about 10 tents at the hostel, so if you'd like to
reserve a pitch, please email gathering[at]climatecamp.org.uk with which
nights (Friday or Saturday).

KIDS SPACE
Volunteers are kindly running a kids space on Saturday and Sunday. Please
volunteer to support this over the weekend.

FOOD AND SOCIAL
The cooking team is in place and we will be serving delicious vegan food.
We will also run a bar on the Saturday evening, when there will be a
slideshow presentation about the Coal Caravan, followed by an open DJing
session - please bring your best national gathering music to share!

On the Sunday night there will be a benefit evening in the Hebden Bridge
Trades Club (fundraising for Hebden Bridge Transition Town/the Camp for
Climate Action), with an excellent DJ already confirmed. There's also a
showing of Age of Stupid in the town.

DONATIONS
We will be asking for a suggested donation of £15 to cover the costs of
the weekend. You can give more or less depending on what you can afford.

TRAVEL POOL
As always there will be a travel pool operating to allow those who have
travelled long distances to receive a contribution towards travel costs
from those who haven't travelled as far.

FACILITATION TRAINING
There will be a large group facilitation training session run by Seeds for
Change on the bank holiday Monday 25 May at the Height Gate hostel. Please
email process[at]climatecamp.org.uk to book a place.

GETTING THERE
The hostel is in the middle of a beautiful ancient woodland, and is
approximately one hour's scenic country walk from Hebden Bridge station
(see route description below). This is on the Caldervale Line, less than
an hour by train from both Leeds and Manchester. We will provide a drop
off area for people's luggage, and will also provide a lift service if
required.

WALKING TO HEBDEN HEY

If you would like a pleasant stroll to Hebden Hey hostel, turn left out of
Hebden Bridge Station exit and then immediately right down Station Road to
the main road (Burnley Road). Turn left along Burnley Road, then fork
first right along Commercial St, which becomes Hollins Street and then
Keighley Road. Continue out of the town centre and up a steep hill to a
traffic light. Turn left onto Foster Lane, and continue down that road for
approximately 250 yards. Turn left down Palestine Rd, then immediately
right to find yourself at Broughton Street. THE DROP OFF POINT FOR YOUR
LUGGAGE IS AT NUMBER 10, WHERE YOU MAY FIND A CUP OF TEA ON OFFER. (All
valuables left at your own risk.)

Continue along Broughton Street, right at the end then immediately left
and onwards over an old pack horse bridge. Follow the cobbled path up the
hillside until a few steps lead to another path on your right. Follow this
through, and at the end continue forward diagonally upwards along a
woodland path. Turn right at the top. You are now on the track leading to
Hebden Hey, about 30 minutes walk further on. Enjoy.

If you are confused there are also directions, and a link to an on-line
map, on the following website http://hebdenhey.org.uk/directions.htm If
you are driving to the hostel, please use these directions.

Check out googlemaps or multimap to put into context the instructions above.

SHUTTLE BUSES
There will be a shuttle bus from Hebden Bridge Station on Friday evening
at 6pm and 8pm. A shuttle bus will also run on Saturday morning, but it
will be focussing on taking luggage from Broughton St, so people can enjoy
the walk.

The shuttle bus is not planning to run on the Saturday or Sunday night
back to Hebden Bridge.

For those moving on to the Height Gate hostel for the Sunday night
accommodation and facilitation training, a minibus will be available part
of the way.

2. WE NEED A VENUE FOR JUNE
If you know a venue, or your neighbourhood could help host June's
Gathering, please bring your proposal to Hebden, or get in touch with
process@

It's not scary - here's the Guide to Organising a National Gathering:

3. OPEN SPACE TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP 22 JUNE
Seeds for Change is organising a workshop on Open Space Technology (OST)
on Monday 22nd June in London. OST is a facilitation technique which
enables large groups of people to have interactive and empowering
discussions and make plans together. The workshop aims to explore the
technique, how to do it, and what its benefits and limitations are. The
workshop is free to grassroots activists. See www.seedsofchange.org.uk for
more details - deadline for booking is 1 June.

4. CLIMATE CAMP LOVES FESTIVALS - GET INVOLVED
Going to a festival this summer? Love Climate Camp? Then combine the two
and get outreaching at your festival of choice! The Festivals and
Fundraising Group would love to hear from you if:
a. you are going to a festival before the camp and would be happy to do
some outreach whilst there. This could be anything from chatting to people
at a stall to running a workshop.
b. you have a suggestion of a festival that would be perfect for Climate
Camp outreach (and preferably some time and energy to make this happen!).
So far we hope to have a presence at Glastonbury; Big Green Gathering;
Secret Garden Party; Strawberry Fair and the Big Chill.
c. you have a brilliant idea for how we can creatively engage people at
festivals.
d. you would like to help make all this happen by joining the Festivals
and Fundraising Group. We would love to have you.

You can contact the group at: festivals at climatecamp.org.uk
You can join the group by sending an email to:

5. HACKTIONLAB 11-14 JUNE WYE VALLEY
Climate Campers are welcome at Hacktionlab, coming up soon in June. The
aim of HacktionLab is to have a convergence where people interested in
and/or working in the areas of alternative media, renewable energy,
on-line video distribution, free software and any other form of activism
that utilises technology. Here is the web site: http://tinyurl.com/cgdl85

6. CHARTERED TRAIN TO COPENHAGEN
A group is exploring the idea of hiring a charter train to take a large
number of people (800+) from the UK to Copenhagen. The idea is that if we
all travel together it will make a big media splash, and will hopefully
save a lot of headaches and potentially money for organisations currently
working out plans for themselves.

We've received a quote from a suitable company and are now working out
what the level of interest is. Note that this is an entirely non-profit
initiative and we haven't yet clarified whether it's feasible (hence this
email).

In order to work out the level of interest and whether there are other
groups with similar plans, we'd be really grateful if you could send the
following details to copenhagen at loco2travel.com:
* name of organisation
* number of people travelling
* current travel plans
* contact email address
* any comments

So that we can make a decision one way or the other about this, please get
in touch *before Friday 29th May*.

That's all folks, for now ...
