Hi
whilst it's true i detest microsoft and don't wish to generate money for them, i have long said that i see the social value in pushing content out through whatever means are effective. The issue here is with embedding this object in the page, we are firstly advertising a proprietary service for an unethical company for free, but the main objection is that once it is there, every single visitor to the site, regardless of their wishes will be having their ip address sent to facebook. This is independent of our own policy which is to never log ip addresses.
This ip address will then be matched up to facebook accounts to provide targeted marketing, sold to other marketing companies, or what is infinitely worse, given to the authorities on request.
I can't conceive of any situation in which this would be acceptable, but as said, i'm only one opinion.
In solidarity

Hi Jim
Are you suggesting that the camp removes all links with Facebook.
I sympathize with your doubts but the logistics are problematic as
things ave gone a long way already.
In peace Neil
i've refined the code a little to make it more suitable:
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php/en_GB"></script><script
type="text/javascript">FB.init("2d8b4fab7bd2a9baf4f71f558e317eea");</script><fb:fan
profile_id="13788209740" stream="1" connections="10"
width="300"></fb:fan><div style="font-size:8px; padding-left:10px"><a
href="http://www.facebook.com/climatecamp">Generate advertising revenue for one of the worlds biggest polluters and least ethical companies in the name of climate camp - click here</a> </div>
in all seriousness, are people aware of the security implications of embedding a link like this in the site. Pulling out a feed is one thing but this is way way too far, to the point where i'd be prepared to block it (as in my admittedly minor involvement would come to an amicable end if this goes ahead). Remember the anti capitalist remit agreed by concensus at blackheath? We can do better than this ;-)
