hold tight there Tim...

The website group is hardly even functioning yet due to this list being rubbish, so let's not get too excited just yet. You and neil might be feeling lonley and agree with each other as you two are the only users of this list. Who is on webcopy? Is that not a job for process?

At the meeting we had in Oxford (only 8 days ago...) it was agreed that interested people
would be put onto the webedit list (waiting on Allisdhair to sort that) and that we
would sort out points of contact and work out what needs doing. I have their details and am waiting to sort it.

I would like to point out that there are several web savy / techy people who are interested, but historically, this group has not been very accessable. Let's give this a chance to work.

I agree that we need process and the idea of this group is that we create it. You ask some very good questions which need to be addressed. At oxford it was agreed that the first priortiy was to give acess to
working groups/neighbourhoods. This is in hand and when this list
starts working, we'll all hear about it. I believe that someone who was at the meeting is already sorting this out. In order to further our ability to work together, i have said that i
would help with training for working groups and neighbourhoods (and would be admins...), and
that i would help Neil out with permission issues. I have sent mails to website@ about this, but once this list is up, we can start discussions.

Also, under what capacity are you visiting UHC? As a web person, as part of networking? Have you further feedback you'd like to share with the group? Perhaps we can discuss the strategy points you've made before you make decisions with UHC.

I look forward to us attempting to all work together,
Brian.

ps : when you type in BOLD...does that mean you are shouting???
ppss : I have not sent this to networking, as it doesn't involve them
Thanks Neil (I think!),

Currently (and I get the feeling Neil might agree) I don't think the separate webedit/website subgroups are working. As only a few are on them, it means that when people are busy and capacity stretched that things don't get done. Possible better to keep everything copied in to the wider networking list to help address this, at least for now.

As for the homepage, I agree the copy's not the most thought through, and that up until now updating it has been a little ad hoc, but it is at least up to date.

Now that we have a better idea of what's happening in 2009, maybe we can start to think a bit more strategically about what we want to achieve with the website over the coming months.

Who is the site for? - existing climate campers/ newcomers / both (if both which group is the bigger priority to communicate with)

What are the aims of the site? - inform newcomers of up and coming events/ motivate visitors to get involved etc etc!

I have been speaking to UHC over the last few weeks and will be going up to visit them at some point in the next few weeks to discuss design and website issues.

They have one initial request if we are to work together again this year - That there is one/two main contact that work is channelled through. Last year they felt like they struggled to keep up with all the random requests from various people wanting last minute design work done and that this restricted their ability to provide us with the quality design work. I'm happy to help coordinate this and be one of the contacts, but the more hands to the deck the better, so if there is anyone out there who would like to actively be involved in design and creation of materials this year please get in touch so that we can start to share ideas.

To help with this and to also ensure that outward facing media such as the website is kept up to date, it would be really useful if somebody from each of the project working groups (international, face off, G20, camp09) would offer to act as networking liaison for the next month or so at least.

My number is 077717407 if anyone wants to chat about this rather than email!

Cheers

Tim
