The answer to this is that Twitter used to send text messages to phones
for free, and we signed everyone up at the Kingsnorth camp to get free
SMS via Twitter.<br>
<br>
Then they had a dispute with the mobile phone companies about who pays,
and they stopped. For the last year and a half only Vodafone have had a
deal with them. In July O2 did a deal

and last week Orange did one

So now everyone who signed up for SMS updates at Kingsnorth and is on
O2 or Orange will be getting tweets as texts.<br>

For the newsletter you could put:<br>

CLIMATE CAMP TEXT MESSAGES<br>
If you've started getting Climate Camp twitter updates texted to your
phone in the last couple of weeks, you're probably on Orange, and you
probably signed up to get text updates at the Kingsnorth camp. If you
started getting them in July, you're probably on O2. If you've been
getting them for as long as you can remember, you're probably on
Vodafone. Either way, if you don't want to get them to your phone any
more, log in to Twitter and untick 'Device Updates' under climatecamp.
Or text STOP to 86444.<br>
