STOP THE REDEVELOPMENT OF GRANDVIEW PARK!
Grandview Park sits in the heart of Commercial Drive, Vancouver's most
radical neighbourhood. It serves as a humble social space that is well
loved for its welcoming demeanour and inclusivity. It has historically
been a fitting rallying point for anti-capitalist and anti-colonial
events, and is a home to many.
The official complaints in favor of redevelopment:
The park is
1. Chronically overrun by illegal inhabitants.
2. Used for drug dealing and hard drugs.
3. The chosen location of illegal protesters.
4. The design of the playground encourages loitering of non-families.
5. The unsanctioned use of tennis courts by the bicycle polo club means
that the
tennis courts (are) no longer available for parents to teach
their kids how to ride bikes.
We want East Vancouver to be a community where you dont have to be rich
to exist, and where we dont criminalize our neighbours. Because the
redevelopment of Grandview Park is a step towards the further elimination
of poorer people from our neighbourhood, and serves to
pacify our community, we say...
NO REDEVELOPMENT OF GRANDVIEW PARK!
