Hi there! At the Gathering I asked if we could be given a bit of space on the website because here in Newcastle ( Why Don't You ) we have no current webspace for activism stuff.
I'm not very good at computers myself, but if you give me the privileges to put stuff on the site I would upload word files or plain text. Would it be possible to get 3 pages, 
 
1. for the 'think globally act locally' newsletter
 
2. the autonomous social centre we're setting up, or a link to it if we get other webspace for that
 
3. local dissent! updates with links to the above 2 pages and to the following websites :

This list was moved to a new server at end of last week as you may see 
from revised footer on each list email. Although the list admin was 
informed I did not find out till I tried the link on the webpage at 
Dissent gathering, showing someone how to contact us, where I panicked. 
I have now updated those links to reflect change. Please update 
elsewhere where needed. The email address is redirecting.

I gained list admin access myself and I think it is now set up to in 
addition to the stripping attachment before going to list to forward 
messages with the attachments to list owner ie me and steve. Steve if 
you don't want to get these then change this setting back or take 
yourself of admin and let me know.

As I said at Bradford Dissent Network meeting anyone who came to the 
gathering especially from working groups should sign up on website as 
user  and let us know and after verifying you are involved we will up 
your privileges on the site so you can add docs to doc manager and 
images to gallery as well as text articles. (not for some things or need 
to re enter login details on admin page
http://www.dissent.org.uk/administrator/  as well as login module in 
left hand column). This means people are not reliant on us to get stuff 
onto site and saves up having to look all over for it. Do not share 
accounts as you will be held responsible for all actions done under that 
login.

We will also still be up for putting stuff on site for people not able 
to deal with doing it direct. Red Fox has said he will do this for some 
one with some artwork arranged at meeting. Keir if you want to just 
email your pdf of callouts etc. you can if you want or try with doc 
manager on the site. I have heard people are sometimes having problems 
with passwords not being sent out when they sign up. I was aware of an 
itermitent problem where server can't look up host names for short 
periods of time. But also mail accounts can bounce it back  if full or 
mistyped emails. If you still can recover password at:

then get in touch from email address you are registered with and your 
login name (or desired login name) and ask us to reset password for you.

We in this web working group will still manage the main presentation of 
the website subject to feedback. We should be bold but bear in mine 
defuse nature of network. We should pay attention to what people are 
presented with on front page. The overall balance of the website. If 
anyone wants to do icons to replace one that came default eg links page 
and for categories setup then put yourself forward. Maybe something 
cartoonie. I am not sure if they have to be same square size as at 
moment I can check.

I set template chooser module on the site and I may work on a new 
template (g1) , it is pretty raw at moment missing many of css classes 
need, but something to build on.

Hi,

noticing 2 new pictures, which are uploaded but not published yet. For the 
gallery:
 1.) go to filemanager and upload pictures there  (under components - 
akogallery - filemanager)
 2.) go to pictures ( components - akogallery - view pictures)
    to get picture on site, go first to "new" and select picture title, 
thumbnail, category and picture, and other attributes, but also take care 
to fill in other fields such as the metadata, description, author, in the 
other tabs )
 3.) to publish picture go to pictures (components - akogallery - view 
pictures) , find picture you want to publish, tick box in the list and 
press "publish"

Anyway there is a picture with a tripod which shows some faces, now 
entitled "tripod", not sure if it is for publishing, anyway, if it is, just 
the publish box needs to be ticked now.

to website. http://dissent.org.uk I have put for now whole article on 
front page but will later put most of it into read more.

There is a big demo going on Now in Athens, and group there are being 
told we are are showing solidarity with them, when they are braving the 
ban on marching and protest, and they are being pointed to the dissent 
web site for this so It good to give it prominence now, to build respect 
and trust with our comrades in Greece.

Hi, The translations of the call-out are up now. The spanish, german, 
french, swedish and italian version are up, but the polish, greek,..., and 
finnish translations can't be found.

The roadshow call is up now.

Is there anything else to put on?

There is still a discussion document "Decentralisation Versus Activist 
Clusters" from 7.4.2004 at large, but maybe this should go more on the 
enrager forum?
Also there is an attachment about the esf, but it seems that would also not 
fit in the page really.


Should there be an "archive" of texts, as some documents are already 
expiring, e.g. the call for solidarity actions at G8 2004?

just a couple of quick things the contact details fro worthing on the info poinst page of the website are wrong. the Group is called Shut the G8 not worthing ecoaction and the email is shuttheg8 at hotmail.com the website address is right tho if you could change that it would be appreciated. cheers.
 
The other thing is a new working group has been set up for the festival of dissent people can subscribe at http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/festivalofdissent could you add that info to the working groups page please? cheers

I've been putting some stuff up on the web and was wondering if there were
any tricks for putting in the commands for changes to text e.g font and
colour etc.  I've been doing it by looking at what is already up there but
it takes ages.   Any tips would be welcome.

If you use Internet Explorer, there is an automatic wysiwyg editor 
included. Unfortunately this only seems to work under Internet Explorer; 
also e.g. the Calendar does not seem to work under Opera, but does under 
Mozilla.

Of course you can also purely html it in the other browsers.

I may upgrade the WYSIWYG editor to HTMLArea 3 (or other) which also 
supports Mozilla ( http://mozilla.org ) . It also has new features such

There has been some messy markup produced by MS Word copy and pasted 
into articles. There are various tools including online ones to clean it 
up and remove unnecessary MS only code. I have been removing little bit 
anyway when making edits.

On altering of styles text, I can add classes can be added to stylesheet 
if you want to use lighter elegant css rather than font or span tags. 
The think about using WYSIWYG editor they are very much about making the 
look of text in markup rather than the separating that out with stylesheets.

Also we could add some audio styles for our visitors who use some screen 
readers with css support.

I have never actually heard what betty, harry and paul sound like 
myself, as I have never tested such screen readers. I wonder how many 
people they have built into them. But it does seem that they are main 
choices at moment.

Due to a mistake a wrong Admin email address is set in the default Mambo 
events component.
Please go into the Administration area, Components -> Events -> Edit config

The G8 are coming to Britain:  What are Bristolains gonna do about it?
Meeting 19/08/04

In June 2005, the leaders of the world's largest 8 economies will be
coming to the UK. The summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire,
 about 40 miles (70 kilometres away from Edinburgh).  The G8 was created
in 1975, in order to safe guard the worlds economy, the G8 is backed
up by institutions such as the IMF, World Bank and WTO. Over the last
15 years, G8 summits have been characterized by waves of growing protests
uniting 100,0000's of people worldwide urging the dismantling of the
G8 and the economic system it perpetuates.  Some argue that the resistance
to their rule has won a victory of sorts - having forced the leaders
of the rich and powerful to meet in isolated, fortified locations and
placed the G8 meetings on the front pages of the worlds media.  Others
say that the fact that they still meet means our work is not yet done
and we should be there, where ever they are, to confront them.  What
do you say?

Remember that things could be very different by June 2005 - Bush could
have been kicked from office, Blair too. Some would say, whoever is voted
in, that things will be the same - does it matter who is in office when
it comes to the global economic system?

When the G8 comes to Britain, what should the response of Bristolains
be?  Ignore it?  Travel to Gleneagles to greet the dignitaries in person?
 Hold a counter-event,  Our own G80,000?

On Thursday 19th August, following the film screenings at the Kebele,
 there will be a meeting - open to all - to discuss possible plans in
response to the G8.  Come along and make your voice heard!
