Flyers and Posters and (as opposed to resources published by dissent) and Documents for making publicity (which is currently just called flyers!). I think i'd actually rather just combine them together. Basically those subcategories don't really make sense to me. Any objections/suggestions? I had someone else say to me why is there not a short introduction to Dissent on the front page of Dissent. I have to say i had got quite used to having the front page with changing info (although it hasn't changed in a while). Any suggestions, feedback? We had talked about having a splash page with a one or two sentence on what dissent is and image and maybe a couple of lines about how the site works. Maybe we should try and sort this out? Would anyone want to work on this with me? I'm trying to gather the publicity for the esf so that info on that can go up on the site but if anyone else has this and can do it that would be really cool. Hope all are well and recovered from the gathering : ) love T From revolting2005 at yahoo.co.uk Wed Oct 6 19:15:25 2004 From: revolting2005 at yahoo.co.uk (revolting) Date: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 19:15:25 +0100 (BST) Subject: [dissent-tech] Request for Dissent/ESF Info to go on Website Message-ID: <20041006181525.44105.qmail@web25101.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> Hi! Here's the text: Resist the 2005 G8 Summit ? ESF Meetings In 2005 the G8 (a Group of Eight of the worlds largest economies and most powerful nation-states) returns to Europe. As in recent years, resistance is being organised. The Dissent! Network was set up in the autumn of 2003 to begin co-ordinating radical resistance to the Summit and to build a lasting anti-capitalist movement in the UK. The Network consists of a number of autonomous local and working groups, all of which work within the hallmarks of Peoples? Global Action European Conference, which took place in Belgrade in July 2004, has supported this call and is also calling for simultaneous actions in villages, towns and cities worldwide on the opening day of the Conference: Wednesday 6th July 2005. The event will take place at the Beyond ESF event, autonomous from the ?official? Social Forum. The event will take place at Middlesex University, White Hart Lane Campus, London, N17 8HR (opposite White Hart Lane train station) from 11am on Friday 15th October 2004. The day will include educational workshops, skill sharing, training, discussions, debates, opportunities to become involved with working groups, and time to meet with groups involved in the mobilisation. It will be a chance to discuss and plan actions, and share and compare our experiences of past mobilisations. The Day of Dissent! will be followed by a benefit party from 9pm. This will be the assembly that starts the day off, so it would be great to have a rep from your working group to be be there and say a short thing about it. Let me know if you can't make it for 10 and I'll pass your details on myself. It'd be great if this text (the text for the back side of the flyer) could go up on the central colomn of the webstie as soon as possible! It'd also be great if the two pdf files I've attached here (the poster and the flyer for the action) would be made downloadable from the website and linked from the article in the central colom. Hope that's doable, and hope to see y'all on the action!!! Text for website: Remember, remember the 5th of November! Resist the meeting of the global elite! Over the last few years, meetings of the rich and powerful ? the World Trade Organisation, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, the G8, NATO etc - have been heavily contested by the world?s people. The 2005 G8 Summit, to be held in the UK, looks set to be the next focus of global resistance. The Dissent! Network in the UK is co-ordinating the anti-capitalist mobilisation against the Summit. As important as these meetings have been as focuses of resistance, the formulation of global policy isn?t limited to these Kodak moments. On 5th and 6th November 2004 some of the worlds most powerful people are planning on meeting in the Sussex countryside to discuss ?International Rule Making for Global Capital Markets?. The conference will bring together members of the US Treasury Department, the IMF, the European Commission and the German Stock Exchange with heads of business and industry and leading academics. The purpose of the conference is to facilitate informal networking and frank and ?off-the-record? discussion between those with the power to facilitate the smoother management of the global economy ? a system based upon the daily exploitation of the vast majority of the world?s population, the pursuit of war and the destruction of ecologies. We have other plans! Whilst the primary focus of the Dissent! Network is upon co-ordinating radical resistance to the 2005 G8 Summit, the Network is hoping to achieve far more than merely organising one spectacular day of action. We are hoping to build a lasting anti-capitalist movement in the UK and to strengthen local and global networks of struggle. As one contribution to this process, a number of groups affiliated to the Network, based in the South East of England, are calling for groups and individuals across the country to resist the meeting of the international elite planned to take place at Wilton Park in November. The Conference commences at 14:30 on Friday 5th November and ends early on Saturday afternoon. We are calling for people to resist the meeting however they see fit. Organise yourselves into small groups, talk about what you can imagine doing, organise your own actions and communicate with others. Up-to-date information and a legal and action briefing will be available on the evening of Thursday 4th November in Brighton, the exact location of this meeting, along with maps of the area and info updates will be available at: www.freewebs.com/shuttheg8 or by calling the Info-Phone: 07837 942373. If you require accommodation in either Brighton or Worthing on the Thursday or Friday night, email: brightonantig8 at yahoo.co.uk as soon as possible. Resist their meeting: Meet 14:30, Friday 5th November at Playing Fields, Vicarage Lane, Steyning (opposite St. Andrews Church, next to Steyning Community Centre) A meeting point in Brighton will be announced at a later date.
