I don't think they are specifically 'happy' about the uproar, but I
think they will attempt to turn it into as much an advantage as they
can. Anything else would be illogical.

Exactly what is your point; that because people do what the government
feels needs critical masses of police to handle, this priority will
later affect your politicians' choices? Maybe you should bet on other
politicians.
