Maybe with a'frontpage' written under miffy or the dissent logo. The transport link - i think this should go to the transport page (the working group one under the main menu) and we then put the link to ways to travel to scotland at the top of the page with the transport working group info below (as this also has links to the transportation hubs) I think its very important that the support groups link goes to the support group page (which i can update) as it has links to the websites of legal, medics etc which will be very important duriing the actual summit. I think it shoudl jsut say support groups - not event resources. Also working groups info is linked through the get involved bit. Finally media - should just say media - as there is another links page and its linked though the media page anyway. Hope that all makes sense! I think its really brilliant! is that the ANyuway i think you should go for it and then we can see exactly how its all linked. The other support groups won't be that relevant during the mobilisation and i'll try and write a clearer - support groups page from the main menu. > tc has done a splash page for front of Dissent site to be first thing > people see when they go to dissent.org.uk > > It has been put up at the unused: > http://international.dissent.org.uk/ > to check out. > > If no one objects it may be put up on actual to site, in front of the > CMS to help first time visitors navigate site, taking into account any > modifications requested (such as what linked to) but note it can not be > updated collectively like stuff in the main site under the CMS *; only > via me and others with filesystem access, but that is not too impossible > and is how non CMS sites go anyway often bottlenecking through one person. > > Also it may interfere with POST function the CMS uses, but I think I > have way round this, need to check out when put up. > > > > > > > http://dissent.org.uk > > > > * by all those who have let us know usernames to get access, though to > get access change main structure of site need to engage with the rest of > web group, also I note some people who have had access status upped have > never tried it it out. Some comments: i agree that that there needs to be a clear link to the main site. Perhaps a prominent "Enter the site" button The other links could perhaps be under the heading "quick links". And I think there should be way fewer - the point is that this should be for first time users to get a quick intro to the main points, so i would be have less stuff, not more. The legal and medical etc. are things that people will mostly get when they arrive. We could always include links for their pages from the "Practical info" section. i agree that travel should point to the simple travel page first, rather than the current one. items which i would remove: publicity and downloads site map convergence centres latest. All this can be found from the main site very easily. i would change "accomodation" to "practical info." i would change "media" to "contact us" and have it point to that page (which contains a link to media). Also, many people did like the "Violent extremists..." text, I don't think it is reacting to the media, I think it is spot on. just my 2p. xj On Wed, 1 Jun 2005 dissent-tech-request at lists.aktivix.org wrote: > Send dissent-tech mailing list submissions to > dissent-tech at lists.aktivix.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://lists.aktivix.org/mailman/listinfo/dissent-tech > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > dissent-tech-request at lists.aktivix.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > dissent-tech-owner at lists.aktivix.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of dissent-tech digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. new splash page for dissent site on cards (Space Bunny) > 2. Ideally, the page above should be showing the top 8 stories, but I'm only getting 2. Maybe its something to do with the rss format, i dunno. i'm a bit new to rss i'll admit... anyhow, can this message be passed on to someone who can direct me to the exact location of the rss feeds or explain what fuck-ups i m making? cheers in advance sx www.wombles.org.uk Concerned about your privacy? Thanks. Here is the SF callout (also available at anarchistaction.org/g8): All Empires Must Fall! West Coast Anti-Capitalist Mobilization Against the G8 July 6-8, San Francisco Call for a West Coast anti-war and anti-capitalist mass convergence, July 6-8 of 2005 in San Francisco, in solidarity with the mobilization against the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Scotland. From July 6-8, 2005, the annual G8 summit we be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. The G8 is a forum of the rulers of the eight most industrialized, wealthy, and powerful states in the world. Every year they meet to discuss how to further their interests, expand their empire, and tighten their grip on every aspect of our lives. The consequences effect us all, and their economic success comes at our expense. The G8 exists to manage and maintain a system whose impacts we see all around us: war, genocide, wage slavery, mass poverty, structural racism, famine, environmental destruction, colonial domination in Africa, Asia, & Latin America, social alienation, and accelerating attacks on working people around the world. But resistance is growing across the globe, in struggles as diverse as they are numerous. And in recent years, everywhere the G8 has met huge movements of people have confronted them, both demanding systemic change and fighting for a global social revolution. In recognition of the call to action by Peoples' Global Action for Global Days of Action to be held against the G8, we are mobilizing for a regional convergence here in San Francisco. We are calling on everyone ready to fight for a better world - workers, students, revolutionaries, anti-capitalists... - from across the North American West Coast to converge and manifest their resistance on the streets. A Mid-West regional convergence is being called for in Kansas City (check out: anarchistaction.org/kansascity), and East Coast in Richmond, Virgina. Our convergence will be in solidarity with those descending upon the streets of Scotland to face the G8 head on. We act in solidarity with revolutionaries taking to the streets to defend working peoples' lives all around the world: the struggle against neoliberal privatization in Bolivia; against transit fare increases in Brazil, Chicago, and San Francisco; against the Minutemen along the border; and against the PG&E power plant in Hunter's Point. Global capital will show the full force of its domestic military capabilities in Scotland - we can confront these summits on our own terms, and this mobilization is a step in that direction. Capitalism is everywhere, but so are we - we will converge in our city and fight it on our own terms! Global capital will show the full force of its domestic military capabilities in Scotland - we can confront these summits on our own terms, and this mobilization is a step in that direction. The film has been uploaded onto our website and we'd appreciate if you would provide a link to the film for visitors of your site and let others know. There are still a few tweaks to be made to the copies online (various language subtitles are available) and we'll get round to doing these over the coming week but the film can be downloaded here : http://www.camcorderguerillas.net/g8_dowload.htm viewed here : http://www.camcorderguerillas.net/g8_view.htm in English The various subtitled language copies are on the download site, we will be putting some text up to let visitors know they should right-click then save as (PC) or 'option click, save target as' (MAC) if they decide to download. I've attached a CG logo in jpeg format, you can include this in the link and feel free to resize this if you prefer. Please get back to me if you have any comments / issues with any of this. So I moved CMS to sub directory (well actually just changed way vhost server up pages but same effect), and then did redirect to keep old urls and links, but redirect does not work with rewrite rule the CMS used to get search friendly urls. people were only getting homepage of the CMS. There may be a way to rewrite this so full info in url called passed to CMS in new location url. If your group wants to be able to a) feed infomation into the communications process or b) recieve infomation distributed through the communications system then we need a conntact number for your group. Please reply to this email with the telephone number that you want to use. I dont think any one can gaurentee that this number will be totally secure...so dont give us your action phones or anything. Maybe you can give us that info face to face if you think we need it. But remember the communications group facilitates the distribution of news and nothing more. For your selves please remember that it might be useful to have different phones on different networks in case one gets shut down/too busy/you go out of reception. Phones that can go on the internet would be best. In your reply please tell us if it is OK to give all the other working groups your number...The communications teams are not for redirecting specific info between one or two working groups....they should be able to conntact each other dirrectly. We will collate a list and send it out to these addresses unless told to do otherwize. I realise that this is a new address. If you feel more comfortable/secure you can phone the Edinburgh Info Point between 8 and 9 pm on Monday where the communications group will be having a meeting, and speak to some one dirrectly. 01315611356 The communications teams will be at communications pionts, one in each of the three main cities. We also want to make conntact with people preparing neighborhoods...if any one has any idea how we can do that please let us know! maybe there is already a list of neighborhood conntacts knocking arround.
