Hi just to remind everyone about the campaign's public meeting in
Portobello on 25th Nov. details 7pm Old parish church Bellfield Street
portobello.

We've had stalls the past 2 Sat's and met many people- carers; 1 elderly
woman in her 90's who's cared for her son for 30 years and was always "too
old" to receive the carer's allowance!
Carers employed by the Council and agencies spoke of how hard the work is
and how exhausted and upset they feel about the situation.

please help if you can.
In the next 2-3 weeks we really need to leaflet as many cafes; shops public
places - streets etc.
'Phone or e-mail the campaign if you can help - 07811185610

On Wed. 4th Nov. a Social care worker left a message on my work 'phone. I'd
like to 'phone you back and talk but you didn't leave any details.
Please 'phone again.

Today in the Scotsman there's talk of cutting the free personal care because
of the budget crisis - another blow for elderly and disabled citizens.

What's happening in Home care is being mirrored in many other services -
learning difficulties; mental health etc.
Recently a no. of organisations lost the tender for work. This means
service- users support being disrupted - to put it mildly - maybe stopped
or cut.

All to reduce costs!

A demo has been organised for this Wed. 11th Nov. at 4.30pm at the City
Chambers.

Please come and let others know.

We need to protest to this Council who are agreeing to all sorts of shameful
policies such as tendering
.
Why can't they refuse?

Can we hope that even a few will speak up and challenge the fact that
there's no money? And ask why not?
The gap between rich and poor has never been greater since 1909!
Why can't the rich be taxed?

What are your thoughts? let us know
