[Edinburgh-carecampaign] Public Meeting - Portobello

The campaign's public meeting is Wed. 25th Nov.   7pm at Old Parish Church;
Bellfield Street, Portobello

All Welcome

Last week the Council were forced to put their plans to tender out
organisatons which help support people with learning difficulties and mental
health problems - on hold.


Such was the outpouring of 300-400 service-users; relatives; families and
staff!  They demonstrated on Wed. 11th Nov and then on Thurs. 19th Nov. came
in their 100's and waited (cheering and heckling) all day in the Council
Chambers.

deputations spoke convincingly;movingly and at the end of the day; the
coalition of SNP/LD was defeated  - the first time in 2 years.

This is a victory!  But the fight has only just begun.

People Power can make a difference.

Congratualations to all who demonstrated; who spoke at the Council; who came
to the Council Chambers on 11th and 19th Nov.  They forced back the tenders.

Every campaign can learn from and support others.

We're fighting the same policy of privatisation and cuts in public services
And Thur's victory is an inspiration for all of us.
