Our campaign is organising a public meeting in Portobello.

Details as follows ; Date and time 7pm Wed. 25th Nov. '09

Place Old Parish Church, Bellfield Street, Portobello

Speakers John Murdoch - disabled activist + a Unison speaker.

Please help,if you can.

We'll be having weekly stalls in Portobello High Street - opposite the
Town Hall    - every Sat from 11am - 2pm

We talk to people; ask them if they'd like to sign the petition; tell them
about the meeting; what the campaign's aboutetc. We listen to their views;
discuss etc.

Often the people we speak to have experience of the cuts and privatisation.
The response is overwhelmingly positive.

Despite the recession and the fear of £294 million in budget cuts, public
services are still something held very dear to the majority of people.

As well as weekly stalls, we need to make contact with activists; community
organisations; organisations for elderly and disabled ;

We need to put leaflets and posters into cafes, shops, libraries; into
homes; churches - wherever we can so any time/ energy you have to help
out will be very useful

Please contact Marlyn if you can help - tel 07811185610

next Sat stall is this Sat. 31st Oct. 11am High St. Portobello.

On Mon's evening news, there was an article titled "disabled and elderly
have to find new carers You should be able to google it.

It's about the Council tendering organisations who provide support and care
to adults with learning difficulties.

Some service users prefer the cjoice of direct payments but this choice is
being taken away.

On Wed. there was a deputatation to the Finance Cttee. who, after hearing
the deputation, are now referring it back to a larger group - think it's
Health and Social Care.
