Hi Everyone Today as the snow falls, Homecarers have to struggle hard to
cover their clients in conditions of unacceptable pressure.
I spoke with a homecarer on Fri. who was tearful following a shift of 11
elderly and disabled people from 5pm - 10pm the previous evening.
her schedule was 8 30 min. slots and 3 15 min slots.
As always no travel time - and far too many tasks to cover.
In present conditions it just gets harder. There's no consideration from
management as to how staff can manage They treat them like machines!
The campaign's next meeting was to be this Wed. 1st Dec 6pm at City
Chambers.
At our last meeting we decided we would go for a drink/coffee and just have
a chat and some Xmas cheer.
Given the weather I'm wondering if we should cancel?
I'm intending to go to a meeting at 7.30pm at Augustine Church called by the
Palestine Solidarity Campaign and to which Councillors have been invited.
It's to specifically campaign against the multi national Veiola being
awarded any contracts from Edin Council.
Veiola have built rail links in occupied Palestine and should be , in my
view, boycotted.
Bad enough the Privatisation agenda but not to Veiola.
Please come along if you can.
If anyone wants to meet up at 6pm for a coffee, let me know as I'll be in
town anyway We can meet at the City Cambers and go somewhere nearby.
Tel 07811185610
This Sat 4th Dec and the next Sat 11th Dec we'll be campaigning at the
East end of Princes Street against the Council's plans to continue their
privatisation agenda to Housing Benefits; street cleaning etc as well as
Homecare.
>From 11am-2pm we'll give out leaflets; collect signatures etc. The public
response is very mich on our side.
Please help out if you can.
On 16th Dec the Council will set their budget. Please join the protest at
the Council Chambers from 8.30am
Finally I listened to a very interesting File on Four programme yesterday
on Radio 4 called "The Inspector calls and is a damning indictment of
some carehomes for the elderly and the toothlessness of the organisations
that should be protecting the standards of care. Definitely worth
listening to.
All the best for Xmas and New Year!
