Hi Just to catch up The front page of Sunday's Scotland on Sunday (Sept.
12th '10) leads with this article Families will have to care for elderly.
You can google it by putting in the above info,
Can anyone teach me how to do the link? I'll buy you a bottle of wine!
The article brings the continuous propaganda of our welfare state not being
able to afford to look after our elderly and disabled citizens to the
conclusion that families - of course this will mean women, in the main,
will have to care for them.
This is simply not tenable given the fact that most women work - and pay
taxes! And many don't live nearby.
We need to keep asking why is there no money for public services when the
rich avoid tax (estimated at £85 billion) a year; when we have Trident;
wars; and the richest in society getting richer.
As you know, there's a whole range of cuts and privatisation threatened in
the Council - and Councils throughout Britain. Edinburgh has an Anti Cuts
Cttee and a Right to Work campaign both these campaigning groups want to
bring all the struggles together and strengthen them.
We had victories the Care and Support tender was scrapped earlier this
year following a brilliant grass roots mobilisation.
Gorgy Community Centre fought - and won - against closure - so it's
possible.
The homecare Campaign is having a Public meeting in Gilmerton on Oct 27th
If you'd like to help leaflet/petition for it, please do.
Our next campaign meeting is Wed.Oct 6th 6pm at Council Chambers All
welcome
