[Edinburgh-carecampaign] Homecare Campaign Next Meeting

Hi Everyone   The next Campaign Meeting is this Wed.  - 3rd August  at 6pm
in the Pendolina Room   Council Chambers.

We haven't had a meeting for   a while  and there hasn't been much
activity .

I've been locked in to Trade Union work  mainly to do with Home Helps.
They're being asked to make a big change in their working lives by working
at Weekends and Public holidays  instead of Mon -Fri.

They're being asked to do virtually( I use this word cautiously)  the same
work as Social Care Workers but the proposal is to pay them a grade less.

As you can imagine there's a lot of upset and fear.

Management are arguing that they want to keep more work "in -house" and , at
the moment, "too much" is going to the private sector.  At the meetings I've
attended they've more or less admitted that the quality is not as good.
-  finally!  But this will still leave 60% in the Private Sector

However this is a big change and requires a lot of time   But the struggle
is still there.

In fact Edinburgh Council is possibly going to privatise up to 4000 jobs and
services such as Street cleaning  (as if these workers haven't suffered
enough!); Housing Benefits and Revenues;; HR and Corporate Services.  There
is a campaign against this  - they're holding local public meetings; street
leafletting etc  and the public response is very much on our side.
