<div>The next meeting of the campaign is this Wed. - 19th August 6pm at City Chambers - All welcome - </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Next Mon. 24th August Panorama at 8.30pm is on the attacks on the services for the elderly and the struggles against them. Should be worth watching. </div>
<div>Can anyone record? </div>
<div>We could use it for future meetings.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Over the last 2 weeks here are some examples: A homecarer reports a service-user who had 3 hourly visits a day from Council staff has had her care transferred tto the private sector. She states they are in for 20 mins and ,on 2 occasions, recently, have not turned up at all at the tea-time visit.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>A service-user who has had a stroke and is paralysed on one side; her carer came for years - preceding the death of her husband . Now it's with the private sector. The time has been cut from 1 hour to 30 mins on all visits which means no housework is done. Often dirty plates are left.</div>
<div>Both the service-user and the carer are very upset at losing the contact - no wonder!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>While I was talking to a homecarer last week, she got a call asking that she go to someone's home at 7am instead of 8am to facilitate transport arrangements. Without hesitation, she agreed.</div>
<div>This kind of goodwill and readiness to sacrifice is absolutely typical. Homecarers are so often willing to go the extra mile.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>On Sat. at the protest against the BNP, I heard at the rally that the Nazis murdered over a million disabled people <em>just because they were disabled.</em></div>
<div> </div>
<div>As we said on Sat. "Never Again"</div>
