<div>Hi everyone - apologies for not contacting you for a few weeks - due to other Trade Union pressures.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Our next campaign meeting is this Wed. 19th May - 6pm Pendolina Room - Council Chambers All Welcome.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Now that the election is over , we can expect that the drive to cut costs for the homecare services will continue - if not increase..</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the 1st debate it was one of the questions put to the 3 candidates and they all spoke of the "unprecedented situation"; of the enormous cost that society faces etc etc </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Why is there never any pride and gladness that we have medicine and good living conditions to allow a longer life?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>And why can't the elderly's experience and history and wisdom be beneficial to us?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Other societies do not view the elderly so negatively.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>It doesn't have to be like this, surely!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>just a few pieces of info. Unison have launched a Public Campaign "Our City's Not for Sale"</div>
<div> </div>
<div>We all need to get involved - there's leafletting next Sat 22cd May for 2-3 hours 11am - 2pm (I think not sure of the exact times) or location but I'll let you know as soon as poss.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The poison of privatisation of Homecare services is now being driven into many other Council services.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Let's campaign and struggle against it.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Also the Trades Council are going to produce a Newsletter re. Cuts in Public Services and are considering a conference on Privatisation; Outsourcing etc How we can organise and fightback. Any contributions welcome.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Finally an article in Community Care - Oct 2009 spoke of unit costs for homecare for the elderly being much lower than other disadvantaged groups £150.00 a week as against £350.00 You may be able to google it it's called Ageism Rife in Social Care ---------- </div>
