<div>Hi Just to catch up The front page of Sunday's Scotland on Sunday (Sept. 12th '10) leads with this article Families will have to care for elderly.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>You can google it by putting in the above info,</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Can anyone teach me how to do the link? I'll buy you a bottle of wine!</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>The article brings the continuous propaganda of our welfare state not being able to afford to look after our elderly and disabled citizens to the conclusion that families - of course this will mean women, in the main, will have to care for them.</div>
<div>This is simply not tenable given the fact that most women work - and pay taxes! And many don't live nearby.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>We need to keep asking why is there no money for public services when the rich avoid tax (estimated at £85 billion) a year; when we have Trident; wars; and the richest in society getting richer.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>As you know, there's a whole range of cuts and privatisation threatened in the Council - and Councils throughout Britain. Edinburgh has an Anti Cuts Cttee and a Right to Work campaign both these campaigning groups want to bring all the struggles together and strengthen them.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>We had victories the Care and Support tender was scrapped earlier this year following a brilliant grass roots mobilisation. </div>
<div>Gorgy Community Centre fought - and won - against closure - so it's possible.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>The homecare Campaign is having a Public meeting in Gilmerton on Oct 27th </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>If you'd like to help leaflet/petition for it, please do. </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Our next campaign meeting is Wed.Oct 6th 6pm at Council Chambers All welcome</div>
