 UC Berkeley students arrested in campus protest

BERKELEY, Calif. — Police at the University of California, Berkeley have arrested dozens of protesters who have been staked out in a campus building for the past week. 
 
Several dozen students had taken over parts of Wheeler Hall as part of a demonstration against state funding cuts that have resulted in enrollment cuts and sharp student fee hikes. 
 
Protesters, who have occupied the hall since Monday, had said they would leave Friday night. 
 
But early Friday, police entered the hall and arrested people about 65 people. 
 
UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof says about 24 of them are not students there. He says they'll be facing trespassing charges. 
 
The UC Berkeley incident follows the arrests Thursday of 12 San Francisco State University students in a similar protest.
