Hi All:

I think it is great to show part of Walkout. I have shown it in my classes
often & intend to do so again in the next week or so. Another idea may be to
inform students of the schedule & those who would like to be a part of the
discussion of events show up later or maybe they have seen Walkout (or are
aware) & can gauge their schedules accordingly--which knowing the agenda
would do via this listserve. I will also contact the students from
Visionaries about the agenda & let them make their own decisions. I have
been letting students know that prepping for the March 4th event is vital,
especially in the next 2 weeks. I have been asking them to be there even for
a little bit on Fridays. But I also know that many of the students I work
with work on fridays since it is their only day without classes. Being able
to come just for an hour or so is a big deal for them & it would be best for
them to be there for the planning unfortunately.

Best,
Sarah

RE: [Educationforall] EFA proposed agenda for fridays meeting 12:00pmR-115Hi
Kelly,

Part of this plan was to promote student attendance from Chicano Studies
courses and to use it
as a means to draw parallels between the Chicano student walk-outs and today.
I think it is important
to bring political discourse into the meetings at the beginning as well to
continue to see education
and consciousness-raising as a tool for growing EFA, ourselves and the
student rights movement.

This has been an emphasis since the beginning, like when Jim came and spoke
about the tax structure in CA.
It is true that we need maximum time for planning, which is why we are
showing only clips from the film.

I was also under the impression that the teach-out would be planned at this
friday's meeting, is this true?

I also plan to be on the program committee.

Saludos,

Justin

  Hi All,

I tried to send this last night, but it didn't go through.

Thank you for putting this together Marcos. May I make a proposal, though?
I think the agenda should be flipped to have the planning sessions for the
3/4 actions at the beginning of the meeting. Then you can show the film for
who ever can stay. People have rearranged their schedules to come to this
meeting in order to plan for the events. And right now, planning for them is
crucial since, as you've noted Marcos, there are only two more weeks left.
As the agenda stands, it will be a 3+ hour meeting, which is hard for people
to accommodate. For myself, I have a meeting that I have to go to at 1:30,
so I'll have to leave at 1 anyway.

We have a lot of exciting things on our plates! Let's get them nailed
down. :)

Just a reminder: for the 3 pm event here are the areas people were working
on:

  Program: Marcos, Jim
  Outreach: Tony, Tania, Kurt, Larissa
Logistics: Susan, Michelle, Nikki, Jose, Kelly

The Teach-Out is coming together well. The big focus should be the 3:00
events and on the walk-out.

  Thanks! Kelly

12:00pmR-115

  Hi all,

The next Education For All meeting will be this friday 2/19, 12pm in room
R-115, San Diego City College 1313 Park Blvd. As many of you are aware, EFA
is currently organizing all the logistical aspects and developing specific
programs for the March 4th events and actions. This includes the City College
walkout, teach-out/rally, and also the larger city wide march to the
governers' office which will initially start at Centro Cultural de la Raza in
Balboa Park at 3:00.

EFA's Coordinating Committee has decided to have as the first part of the
agenda, a movie showing on the Chicano Walkouts that draws some lessons that
we could learn from for today's student/worker movement against the budget
cuts.

Please come out and contribute and help with the organizing efforts of
these events. This will be EFA second to last meeting before March 4th, we
are only two weeks away!

The following is the proposed agenda for this fridays meeting.

  1. Introductions-5 min

  2. Educational portion: Movie showing- Chicano Walkouts- ( 30 minutes of
selected chapters from this documentary and 15 minutes for discussion.) -45
minutes

  3. Specific organizing for 3/4 at City including walkout/rally/teach out.
Logistics, establish a program, and outreach efforts. -30 min

  4. Specific organizing for 3/4 larger regional march from balboa park to
governors' office. Logistics, establish a program, and outreach efforts. -30
min

  5. Announcements- 5 min
