Companeras/os,
On a practicaly note, people who don't want to watch the film on the Chicano
Walk-outs should show up at 1230 instead of 12:00. This way those of us who
have busy schedules can get there jsut for the 'business part,' and at the
same time respect the right of others who do want to see the film.
Educational introductions at EFA meetings were democratically agreed upon in
the early formation of the groups and seen as a crucial EDUCATIONAL aspect
of movement-building. We should continue with this vision. Education a big
theme at the last meeting, and it seemed that everyone agreed that it should
be part of the movement. This is education. We shouldn't sacrifice this
component because we don't see it as part of 'business' or if we feel we are
already know all we need to know about theory, history, and practice.
On a political note. We can all learn alot--from the 20 year veteran to the
new activist-- from the Chicano Student movement that transformed the
California education system last time around. Connecting to past experience
and understanding this great contribution of the Chicano/Latino community to
civil rights will help inform current movement and appreciate what students
and our comunidad are capable of. We need this knowledge.
We in the Chicano Studies department are also using this as an opportunity
to involve new students in our classes, promoting it as a department
endorsed event and encouraging student participation. Students have shown an
interest, especially as it makes their history relevant to what EFA is
doing. This is key for movement-building in the affected communities.
We should continue to find ways of growing the EFA, involving new students,
and making our work relevant especially to the marginalized working class
and communities of color that bear the heaviest burden of budget cuts and
who have demonstrated their leadership in the new movement.
Solidaridad,
Justin

>>
>>
>>
>> Please come out and contribute and help with the organizing efforts of
