wow... this bickering is giving me a headache... in response to all these emails, i think it is very silly and unnecessary. i think that this whole "movie" situation has been blown out of proportion. as much as i am passionate about the cause and want to do as much as i can to help, all this arguing and clashing between us has made me second guess putting so much effort into this event. i think that the unity and solidarity has been lost and it makes me very sad to see that we can not get things done without arguing. we are all in EFA for the same issue and at the end of the day, we will stand untied for the same issue.

Nobody is questioning the importance of the film or the purpose of it. What I'm saying is that most EFA members don't need further motivation to get involved; we already are. I believe it's safe to assume that about EFA members.
The outreach is great, I wish the rest of the individuals would have been notified about the Chicano film showing before it was announced in classrooms.
How about we get there at 12 and decide what to do then because we're obviously not going to come to a concensus over e-mails...

I would hesitate to speak for all or most EFA participants on whether they would or would not want to watch a portion of the Chicano Walkout movie as an educational portion of the EFA meeting as Kurt has suggested.
Just so everybody knows, a few of us have done extensive outreach to City College students and have invited them to participate at the EFA meeting on the grounds of the movie showing and specific 3/4 organizing. Prior to the movie showing we have had educational portions in the form of articles being sent out, those who take the movement serious and the self-education serious are the ones who have participated in these discussions and have read the information that was sent out over the list.
The movie showing is a way to generate excitement for new students to come and participate, learn about past movements and apply some lessons to the movement today.
I think many are missing the overall big picture here. And that is that we are striving to GROW this movement, in particular here at City. This has been a big part of EFA's focus since its start. If we don't take it upon ourselves to grow the local movement and educate ourselves and those around us than this movement is headed towards a dead end.
This is essentially why EFA Coordinating Committee has decided to move forward with the movie showing in the beginning of the meeting. It is a strategic reason as well as educational.
The other reason why the movie showing should be viewed in the begging is for political reasons. It will not make sense to plan and organize a walkout/teach out/rally/march and than watch a documentary about the Chicano walkouts/teach outs/rally's/marches after we have already planned out the details. It will absolutely make sense to watch the movie first in order to raise the consciousness of us all and in particular of those students gravitating towards activism and EFA and in the context of having that historical movement fresh in our minds go into planning our events for 3/4. Its about Bringing Education and Activism Together literally. It will absolutely be beneficial to watch the documentary first and than go into the specific planning of what we envision 3/4 should look like.
In Solidarity,
Marcos

Hi everybody,
As much as I am a Chicano and want to further understand the issues of the 60's and 70's and the Chicano movement...it's crunch time.
I (and most EFA participants) don't need further motivation to attend and plan the March 4th event. The truth is that the event is only two weeks away and as we've noticed in any meeting; it takes much time and discussion to come up with resolutions.
The video showing is a good idea, maybe at the end of the meeting for whoever can stay.
