[Educationforall] An Invitation from Educate for the Future

Hi All, 
FYI, This is a call from Educate for the Future a local group of community
organizers.  Kelly and I attend their weekly meetings.  They are a great
group largely focused on K-12 cuts but supportive of our efforts as well.
Doug Porter from this group is one of the prospective speakers for the 3:00
rally.  He is a long-time local activist and parent.  Here is their website.
http://educate4future.org/.  In my estimation they are one of the best things
going in SD at present--a smart, welcoming, and inclusive coalition of folks.
I think they fine allies to have.

Dear friends:

 

Educate for the Future (EFF), a community based education reform alliance of
parents, teachers, students and community leaders which was convened by
Current Board of Education President, Richard Barrera, is working on
building a local education coalition to fight the Governor¹s education
agenda, and to demand an immediate stop to the drastic and decimating cuts
in the last two years and the proposed cuts for the 2010-2011 school year.
These cuts are threatening to undermine the District¹s mission of providing
our students the services and education they deserve.

 

We are planning a May 8 March/Rally and other actions to put the Governor
and other politicians in Sacramento on notice that we are not going to
acquiesce to their lack of political will to use the different options at
their disposal to find the necessary revenues we need to educate our
students in San Diego County and in the SDUSD District in particular. The
EFF alliance believes that in the richest state in the nation and the
seventh economy in the world, the magnitude of the education cuts can¹t be
tolerated. In fact, this level of cuts endangers the viability of educating
our students.

 

Educate for the Future is calling on your organization to join us and become
a member of the San Diego Education Coalition Against the Cuts in Education.
We will be holding a coalition meeting on Wednesday February 24 at 6:00
p.m., at the office the Equality Alliance at 3750 30th St., (South of
University Ave. in North Park), to talk about the steps to organize a
massive and successful event on May 8, 2010. We are seeking your endorsement
and/or active participation in the building of the May 8 March/Rally to
