San Diego May 1st Coalition vehemently condemns the recent killings by Border Patrol forces 

Progressive Coalition calls for boycott of Arizona, and demands justice for Anastasio Hernandez Rojas and Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereca

In the wake of recent Border killings, as part of the national effort to boycott Arizona, a response to the passage of Arizona's SB 1070 law, which analysts say will lead to racial profiling by law enforcement agencies, the May 1st Coalition is calling for a boycott of the upcoming 3 game series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres, scheduled to be played in San Diego on July 16, 17, and 18. 

In addition to the series boycott, we are organizing a protest during the game on Saturday, July 17 at Petco Park. 
The Diamondbacks' owners are major supporters of the Arizona Republican Party, which supports SB 1070. 

We believe that laws that scapegoat immigrants, like SB 1070, have fueled the racist climate that has led to recent border deaths. 

This climate continues to pose a very real and persistent threat to immigrants in this country, as it serves to embolden those, including the Border Patrol forces, who would wage violence on our immigrant community. 

Our goal is to protest the tide of anti-immigrant hatred, demanding justice and criminal prosecutions for the brutal killings of Anastasio Hernadez Rojas and Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereca at the hands of Border Patrol forces. 

Anastacio Hernadez Rojas, a husband and father of five who had lived in San Diego for 27 years, was brutally beaten and tasered - causing his death -- by the Border Patrol at the San Diego-Mexico Border on May 28, 2010. 

Witnesses say that Rojas was face down on the ground in handcuffs, while being beaten by as many as 20 Border Patrol agents. In a different, but fundamentally connected, incident on June 7, 2010, a Border Patrol agent shot and killed 15 year-old Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereca just across the El Paso, Texas border.   

We cannot stand by and do nothing while our immigrant neighbors are threatened by unjust laws and we see law enforcement agencies, that we fund with out tax dollars, killing them with impunity. 

We ask for all San Diegans to boycott the Diamondbacks, and join us in picketing in front of the game. 

The San Diego May 1st Coalition is a coalition of more than 20 San Diego area organizations working together for immigration reform and other social justice issues.
