Letter to the students of California: your fight is ours !

    We have
been aware of your movement against the budget cuts, the fees increase and the
project of dismantle your university and rights. We found out that a strike is
planned on March 4th in many of the universities.

    We,
young people organized in the Revolutionary Youth Alliance ( "Alliance des
Jeunes Révolutionnaires", AJR, France), affirm : your fight is ours !
Indeed, in this very moment in France, the government is trying to destroy our
universities system through their "autonomy", i.e. their
privatization. Under the pretext of making universities autonomous, the state
is withdrawing its funding and force them to seek private investments. The
government is trying  to disrupt
the formation of teachers, to casualize them. In every university our rights
are threatened. In California or in France, under different forms, the
speculators try to be bailed out on workers and youth's backs. Our governments
gave them billions, and now they want us to pay, while this money never went in
our pockets ! We don't accept this ! This crisis is not ours !

    Your
movement is a support to organize our own resistance. The unity between youth
organizations and the labor movement, the base of mobilization of your
mobilization, is the only solution for the protection of our rights. Hence we
commit ourselves to make your fight heard all over France. A victory of  youth and workers in California would
be a victory of youth and workers worldwide.

    Called
by the anti-war movement in the USA, we decided to organize a day of
mobilization and gathering against war and exploitation, for the withdrawal of
the French occupation troops from Afghanistan on March 20th ( 7th anniversary
of the American invasion of Iraq ). This day of international mobilization was
launched by 50 young American activists, taken up by young people of 7
different nationalities in Algiers, on December 5th. In France, in the USA,
throughout the world,  youth will
take to the streets to put an end to all these wars, to demand the right to
have a future.

    Your
fight is just ! The youth, public services and workers must be bailed out, not
speculators and  the war machine !
We don't have to pay back their debts ! We don't have to finance occupation and
massacres ! In California, in France, we demand this money to be used to
guarantee a future for the youth !

    That's
why we reassert our solidarity with the young people and workers of California,
mobilized against the assault on public higher education and public services.

Algiers, March 2, 2010

Dear comrades

We would like to greet your fight and your mobilization defending
public education and the right to study. It is a fight we have in common for
the imperialist offensive against the social benefits of workers and youth
spare no continent, no nation.

The right to public and free education is one of the fundamental
gain made by the Algerian people, by its victorious revolution which freed the
country form colonialism. It's thanks to the democratization of education, to
the public school which formed hundreds of thousands executives that the
Algerian nation was able to build an independent national economy and reach its
full sovereignty.

Today, this right tends to be called into question by the
different 'reforms' imposed to us by foreign political and financial
institutions ( IMF, MB, European Union,). In 2004, the LMD ( License - Master -
Doctorat ) system was introduced in the universities without former discussion
but within the frame of a vast deception operation to hide its main goal : to
destruct national degrees, to devalue them, and the withdrawal of the state to
subject universities to enterprises and multinationals. The result is that the
Algerian university is plunged into an indescribable disorder. But the
mobilization is organizing itself. The reject of the LMD system grows bigger
and bigger in the universities.

By attacking our degrees, by devaluing them, the multinationals
and governments at their service want to subdue us to limitless exploitation.
They want to make a cheap and 'qualified' workforce. Like you, and with you,  in the international mobilization
necessary for our victory, we refuse the lot the world's leaders have in store
for us.

Neither do we want to pay their crisis's price, of which
consequences are already catastrophic for the workers and the youth. We can not
accept the labor cost to be lowered so that the exploiters make more profit.

The Organization of young people for revolution ( OJR,
Organisation des jeunes pour la révolution ) is part of the fight in defense of
public education, university and national degrees. In its last congress, held
on March 4th and 5th, 2009, a national campaign is launched through a petition
addressed to the President of the republic asking him to reestablish the former
education system and the student's free choice. In two months we gathered more
than 13,000 signatures.

Because you are at the heart of the system which impose these
destructive policies, your fight is a lever for the youth worldwide. Hence, it
is important for us to see such mobilizations organized in California on which
we will be able to drawn on.

We assure you of all our solidarity in your fight.

And you can already rely on our mobilization against war and
exploitation on the next March 20th. There too, we inform you that we already
gathered more than 14,000 signatures and will organize and national gathering
for this occasion.

APOIO AOS JOVENS DA UNIVERSIDADE DA CALIFÓRNIA PELA EDUCAÇÃO
PÚBLICA E CONTRA AS PRIVATIZAÇÕES

O Centro Acadêmico do Bacharelado Interdisciplinar em Humanidades
da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) manifesta seu apoio aos colegas da
Universidade da Califórnia, na sua luta pela Educação Púbica e contra as
privatizações.

A situação da Educação Pública brasileira é lastimável. Desde a
educação de base até o nível superior, as nossas escolas e universidades sofrem
como o descaso político; os nossos professores recebem salários para enfrentar
situações que, por vezes, põem em risco a sua própria vida; o tráfico invade
esse terreno que lhe é favorável e joga a juventude na criminalidade. Com isso,
quem perde é o jovem que fica restrito a uma educação precária e de má
qualidade.

A luta dos colegas na Califórnia é pertinente também aqui no
Brasil com as suas devidas particularidades. Por isso, que para além dessa
moção de apoio, nós estamos organizando para o dia 04.03 uma mobilização para
nos somar à voz que grita e clama por apoio. Voz esta dos jovens de todo o
mundo!

mobilização em defesa da educação pública e contra as privatizações que vocês
organizam para o dia 04 de março. Nos solidarizamos com a sua luta e afirmamos:
é a mesma que travamos no Brasil.

Consideramos que os investimentos públicos em Educação são
prioridade e condição fundamental para garantir aos jovens um futuro digno. Mas
o que vemos são os governos destinando os recursos para guerras e ocupações

Caros companheiros e companheiras,

Recebi com alegria a notícia da mobilização que vocês estão
propondo realizar, no dia 04 de março deste ano, em defesa da educação pública
e contra as privatizações, no quadro da preparação para a jornada internacional
contra as guerras e a exploração. Num momento em que assistimos a profunda
crise do sistema capitalista, que ataca diretamente a juventude lançando-a no
desemprego, na miséria, só a luta da juventude organizada pode ajudar no
combate pelo direito a um futuro!

No Brasil, a situação da educação também exige de nós lutas
constantes e bastante organização. Milhares de jovens não tem acesso às
universidades, e mesmo os poucos que tem, muitas vezes passam por dificuldades
para permanecer estudando, em decorrência da ausência de uma assistência
estudantil, e dos altos custos para estudar, com gastos com alimentação,
transporte, livros e etc. Em muitas universidades faltam professores,
funcionários e laboratórios.

Isso tudo decorre da falta de investimentos públicos. Enquanto
investe pouco em educação o governo não poupa esforços para oferecer milhões
aos bancos, reduz os impostos para grandes empresas, provocando uma queda de
arrecadação, cujo dinheiro deveria se destinar a investimentos em educação e
saúde. Como é possível observar nos jornais, essa não é uma política
desenvolvida apenas no Brasil, mas em quase todo o mundo. É uma política
desesperada do sistema capitalista, para tentar salva-lo, mesmo que seja as custas
da destruição dos serviços públicos e de milhões de vidas.

Neste momento mesmo, os governos do Brasil, dos Estados Unidos e
de vários outros países gastam milhões de dólares para manter uma ocupação no
Haiti, atacando a população e a soberania da nação haitiana. Preferem investir
na guerra para fazer lucrar as grandes corporações, do que investir na melhoria
da vida da população. É isso que esse sistema tem a oferecer. E só a luta pode
oferecer uma saída.

E essa luta precisa da colaboração entre os jovens do mundo
inteiro. Por isso saúdo a mobilização que vocês preparam e afirmo: vocês não
estão sozinhos! Faremos todos os esforços necessários para mobilizar os jovens
no Brasil para realizar atividades como a que vocês propuseram!
