[Educationforall] After March: which way forward in the fight to defend public education?

Dear EFA members,

On March 4th, tens of thousands of students in California and throughout the United States stood up in defense of public education. Although largely ignored by the mainstream media, the walk-outs, rallies and demonstrations of March 4th powerfully signaled the entrance of a new generation of young people into politics. But the crisis of the university and of the entire system of public education is bound up with a far broader social crisis of international scope, which includes ongoing and impending imperialist wars, unprecedented levels of social inequality, and the political hegemony of an obtuse and parasitic financial elite. The legitimate interests and aspirations of working people, including students, are coming into sharper conflict with the reality of a decaying social system.

The critical issue is one of political perspective. What social forces can carry out the fight to defend public education, and what political program and orientation is necessary for this fight to succeed?

Joseph Kishore, National Secretary of the Social Equality Party will speak on this question at a public meeting at San Diego State University. Ricardo Ruiz, a leading member of the International Students for Social Equality at San Diego State University, will also speak at the meeting.

This event is part of a series of meetings being held throughout the country leading to a national conference on the social crisis and war on April 17-18in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In the wake of the March 4th events, we invite all students and workers to attend the meeting and discuss the future of the fight to defend public education.

When:
Monday March 15th at 7pm
Where:
Casa Real (Aztec Center)
San Diego State University

Sincerely,
The ISSE at SDSU
