Greetings,

I am contacting you as a genuinely interested student journalist working
hard on an in-depth article about the March 4 Day of Action that took place
across the country. I am the deputy news editor at The Badger Herald, the
University of Wisconsin-Madison’s premiere daily student newspaper. You can
view all my work for the newspaper by typing “Kyle Mianulli” into the author
box here <http://badgerherald.com/search/>.

My aim for this article is to pull together the strings of action that took
place March 4 from all over the country into a unified account that
accurately represents and personifies the larger movement. This is something
I have not seen effectively accomplished in the national press, and is
something I think is vital to the movement. Ambitious? Yes. Worthwhile?
Absolutely. Your help in achieving this is integral.

Some of you may have heard from me already. But, because there were over a
hundred movements all over the country, rather than try to contact people
individually, I am sending this e-mail to people listed on the
defendeducation.org
contacts and events page <http://www.defendeducation.org/?page_id=244#WI>.
If you can think of anyone that could offer a valuable perspective or
information that would not have been listed here, I strongly encourage you
to forward this e-mail to them.

As a leader in this day of action, you would be doing a tremendous service
to the cause and students all over the country if you took a couple quick
minutes to answer as many of the questions below as thoroughly as possible.
Your participation is completely voluntary and I assume the right to use
your full name in the article to cite any information you provide. If you
get figures or information from any other source, please specify and provide
a link to it if possible.

I usually strongly prefer a conversation over the phone whenever possible.
If you find this cause important and worthwhile I encourage you to give me a
call at either of the numbers listed at the bottom of this e-mail in
addition to your e-mail response. I am working on a deadline, so please
respond as quickly as you are able to.

I fully intend to produce a story of real and lasting importance. Though
ambitious, I truly believe this endeavor has the potential to develop into
something quite remarkable. The more responses I get, the more powerful I
think the article will be. I genuinely look forward to hearing from you.

 Thanks so much,

Kyle Mianulli

Questions:

What is your full name and title? (i.e. How would you like to be cited in
the article?)

What school are you affiliated with, and what is your role in that school?
(i.e. student, faculty, professor etc.)

What type of demonstrations took place on your campus the day of March 4?

How many people participated?

What role did you play in organizing and executing the movement?

What particular grievances at your school motivated the action?

What was the response from law officials? Were there arrests?

What was the response from those you directed the action toward? Was there a
response from school administrators? Legislatures? Community members?

As specifically as you can define it, what is the cause you are fighting
for?

What results do you hope to see at your particular institution?

What results do you hope to see on a national level?

In your own words, what is the underlying issue uniting these movements
across the country?

Do you have any future plans for further demonstrations or action at your
institution or elsewhere?

What was the most interesting or remarkable thing that happened during or as
a result of the action that took place on your campus? What is the best
personal story/account you have heard?

Do you have any pictures of the events on your campus? If so, please attach
them along with who they should be attributed to should we choose to run
them in any form?

Do you have anything at all you would like to add?

If you have any additional comments or advice about how to further pursue
and focus this story, don't hesitate to share.

Thanks again
