Hello Everyone,

Today at 11:30am we will be gathering outside the LRC Building in the grassy area near the bottom floor entrance. We will be departing by trolley to San Diego State University to deliver our letter to President Weber. We should hope to depart no later than 11:45am and arrive at the campus within 20-30 minutes. Its our understanding that Mr. Weber will be in the office and we hope to have the opportunity to discuss our position with him directly. Below is the final draft of the letter, edited to reflect the suggestions received. If anyone has any questions or would like to contact me directly I can be reached at 858-625-1127.

In Solidarity,

FINAL DRAFT:

May 4th,
2010

Education For
All Coalition

1313 Park Boulevard

San Diego, CA
92101

President Weber,

Education For
All is a county-wide coalition comprised of campus and community organizations
forwarding educational rights in San Diego, California. Due to the progressive mobilization of San
Diego’s students and community members throughout the county, it has come to
our attention that changes are being implemented to the In-Service Area
Admissions and the TAG Program at SDSU.

We recognize the
economic crisis has resulted in an overall admissions reduction to CSU
institutions by 40,000 students, 4,600 of which are estimated from SDSU. Education for All is concerned that your
particular strategy for fulfilling this requirement has resulted in a disproportionate impact on lower income
communities, especially communities of color who are still struggling for
social equality. Therefore, such
restructuring has become an issue of civil rights and it is urged that you seek
out alternatives to meet budget needs as this change will have devastating
effects on future generations seeking the right to learn in San Diego.

The CSU mission statement is being seriously
questioned by citizens of San Diego County. It clearly states that in order for the university
to accomplish its mission of “providing public services that enrich the
university and its communities“, it must “serve
communities as educational, public service, cultural, and artistic centers in
ways appropriate to individual campus locations.” Destabilizing policies that protect underrepresented
students in their search for educational justice is both illegal and morally
questionable. You have dedicated your life to education; we ask that you
reflect upon your legacy as president of SDSU during these critical times.

We call on the University
to rescind all changes to the In-Service Area Admissions and TAG program
policies. We demand that all 1,740 in
service area students who met the CSU requirement for admission, and thus
qualify for admission to SDSU, be admitted to the campus. Additionally, we request that the University consult
with community educational groups before consenting to structural reforms that
affect us all, in an effort to share ideas and develop solutions to our
collective challenges.

Furthermore, we request
an immediate public statement explaining the measures you will be taking to
resolve the matters being presented by the people of San Diego. A growing audience is awaiting your response
and we are eager to discuss this matter with you further.

Sincerely,

Education
For All Coalition, San Diego
