On May 24th the NAACP San Diego Branch will join the California NAACP's statewide membership for a powerful day of grassroots advocacy in Sacramento at the capitol. Community and youth leaders will travel to meet with the Governor and Members of the California Legislature. Our agenda will focus on informing lawmakers about our policy concerns on critical civil rights and social justice issues of the day. The lobby day will begin at 8 am and end at 6 pm.
The NAACP will provide free buses from San Diego to the capitol in Sacramento and the return trip. We need to have an accurate count of who will be needing transportation so that we have an ample number of buses for all branches in California. We plan to have buses leave about 9 pm from the Malcolm X Library parking lot Sunday evening so we can arrive in Sacramento early Monday morning, freshen up and be ready to meet the Governor and the legislators. Logistics will be worked out once we have a final count on who is attending. NAACP will provide a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner meal.
The registration form is attached and should be faxed back to the CA NAACP State Conference as indicated on the form or returned to our branch:

Lobby day is open to the NAACP membership and community members. Our youth are especially encouraged to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in the democratic process. The NAACP will provide a brief training session, the talking points and issues of concern before we meet with the lawmakers.
Please respond by return email reply with contact information that you intend to participate by 05/10. Please contact Dr. Pat Washington, NAACP SD Branch Community Coordinator & Lobby Day Chair, at 619.582.5383, with any questions or for further information.

"In the end," said Dr. King, "we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends...Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
What is the issue?
The administration at SDSU eliminated the long-standing policy of guaranteeing admission to CSU-qualified local students two weeks before the Fall 2010 application deadline for SDSU. Up until then students who met CSU eligibility requirements were admitted into SDSU. The new policy set a quota/limit on the number of local students admitted to the campus . This year alone, 1740 qualified local students were denied admission to SDSU outright.
What can you do?
Individually or with others, write and call Chancellor Charles Reed and the CSU Board of Trustees. The message is simple: "Order SDSU to terminate its new policy; restore the local student admit guarantee policy now! Chancellor Reed :(562) 951-4700, Fax: 562 951-4986. CSU Board of Trustees: (562) 951-4020 Fax: (562) 951-4949. Email: CReed at calstate.edu.
