Dear ISSE members, students and workers,
In light of the hundreds of thousands of classified documents relating to
the illegal occupation of Iraq released by WikiLeaks earlier this week, the
Pentagon – along with the complicit backing of the Obama Administration and
the corporate controlled media – have launched a massive smear
campaignagainst the organization and its leader, Julian
Assange (See: Julian Assange walks out of CNN
interview<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lisa9XTRLb4&feature=player_embedded>
). These anti-democratic attacks against WikiLeaks and its efforts to bring
the reality of the war to the global public serve as reminder to the
American and international working class of the extent to which the US state
will go in order to cover-up the illegal activity resulting from its
imperialist endeavors abroad. Despite years of enormous opposition to the
war, both the Democrats and the Republicans – whose political roles have
become more and more characterized by their allegiance to the interests of
the financial elite – have remained deaf to shouts from below. As the
global financial crises worsens and austerity becomes the “new normal”, working
class opposition will continue and grow, pitting workers up against the
reactionary interests of the financial elites, one of which is the
continuation of war – the current WikiLeaks situation is indicative of this.
This coming week the ISSE will be reviewing a few articles that touch on
this very important issue, as well as the necessary perspective needed in
order for the working class to resolve the crisis and free humanity from the
continuous threat of war – that is, the perspective of international
socialism. The articles will be introduced by members, and followed by a
discussion. The last article has a video included that was released earlier
this year by WikiLeaks, showing the murder of innocent Iraqi civilians and
journalists, which ultimately acted as the catalyst for the American state
to stifle any such exposure of their crimes. The links to the articles are
below:

Please come with questions and comments, as this helps to stimulate a
fruitful discussion. We will be meeting at 5:00 PM in Adams Humanities
(AH), room 2113, on Tuesday, November 2nd. We hope to see you there.
Best regards,
