Dear Current and Prospective Students:
As you may know, public higher education in California is facing drastic budget reductions for the third year in a row. Even though we have struggled through three years of drastic budget cuts, the San Diego Community College District has been committed to meeting the educational needs of our students. Unfortunately, for 2011-2012, the state will be substantially reducing the number of student enrollments that they will fund for community colleges. We are deeply disappointed by this decision.
After carefully considering all options and the impact of these unprecedented reductions to our core programs, we regret that we are forced to drastically reduce our summer offerings to minimum levels. The only courses we will be offering will be those to honor specific commitments, including specialized allied health programs and pending summer graduates. Therefore, we will not be producing a summer schedule or issuing registration appointments.
Students in specialized programs and summer graduates will be contacted with instructions regarding the registration process.
We regret this unfortunate situation and the impact it may have on your educational plans. We will do everything we can to protect our fall and spring classes. Future e-mails regarding the Fall 2011 schedule and registration will be forthcoming.
Be assured that we will continue to work with our state legislators to emphasize the importance of fully funding community colleges to meet the critical educational needs of our students.
