Dear Friend,Back room trade deals benefit big corporations at the expense of working people. We need your help demanding that U.S. officials move the Trans-Pacific Free Trade Agreement negotiations into the light of day.The Trans-Pacific Free Trade Agreement is a massive new trade deal for the Pacific Rim. After eleven major rounds of negotiations, the United States has reportedly introduced proposals for most, if not all, of an estimated 26 separate chapters for this pact — proposals that will likely affect jobs, wages, agriculture, migration, consumer safety, the environment, financial regulations, access to medicine, indigenous rights, public procurement and more in our communities and throughout the world.Despite the far-reaching nature of the Trans-Pacific FTA, the U.S. Trade Representative has refused to release any of its negotiating proposals for public scrutiny. One corporate trade attorney with decades of experience in international trade negotiations recently gloated that, "This is the least transparent trade negotiation I have ever seen." That isn't right and has to change. What's even worse, however, is that while you, I and the majority of Americans are barred from knowing what's taking place in the Trans-Pacific FTA negotiations, approximately 600 corporate lobbyists have been named "cleared advisors," giving them regular access to the negotiating documents and negotiators. This type of back-room deal making is unacceptable in a democracy, and it is even outside of the norm for international trade negotiations. Even the World Trade Organization (WTO) publishes its draft negotiating proposals online for public review and comment. Please sign our online petition urging U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk to publicly release the negotiating proposals for the Trans-Pacific FTA. All petitions will be delivered to U.S. trade negotiators prior to the start of the next negotiating round in Dallas this May.You deserve the right to know what U.S. trade negotiators are negotiating in your name. Please take action now.http://action.cwa-union.org/c/1372/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=4310In Unity,Beth Allen

Firefighter Mahlon Mitchell, the dynamic activist who helped lead the 2011 Wisconsin spring, is running for lieutenant governor in the state’s recall elections.Job growth in April rose by 115,000, above the 100,000 needed to keep up with new job entrants. The unemployment rate improved a tad, from 8.2 percent in March to 8.1 percent in April, as did the number of jobless, which declined from 12.7 million in March to 12.5 million in April, according to U.S. Department of Labor data released this morning. But the one-tenth of a percent improvement in the nation’s jobless rate is “due to people dropping out of the labor force, not an increase in the share of the working-age population with jobs,” notes the Economic Policy Institute. A Little Treat ...from Michael MooreFriday, May 4th, 2012Friends, Here's a free song for you. It's my contribution to "Occupy This Album", a compilation CD (99 songs!) featuring David Crosby & Graham Nash, Steve Earle, Tom Morello, Willie Nelson, Ani DiFranco, Third Eye Blind, Immortal Technique and Jackson Browne to be released Tuesday, May 15th. All proceeds from this album will go to fund the Occupy Wall Street movement (all the musicians and songwriters have donated their time and music). They asked me if I'd like to record a poem or maybe make a music video of some of the songs. I said, "I could just sing a song." When the laughter died down, I recorded this.I hope you enjoy my first try at this new profession (though I have no intention of giving up my day job). And thank you, Bob Dylan, for your contribution, and for approving this, my debut. Enjoy!
