Arizona Solidarity. Stop Criminalizing Our Communities.
In PHX AZ we're standing up and the resistance in Arizona to the hateful law SB 1070 and all police/immigration collaborations. Join a BOYCOT OF THE 4 TH OF JULY AND RALLY AT INS DOWNTOWN to say no to hate and call on President Obama to act immediately and intervene in Arizona. Act now rally everywhere boycott the the 4 th of July no BBQ no drinking no party for raza what do we have to light fire works for we have no rights I know were I will be in front of the INS you should too.

Stop Sheriff Arpaio
Sherriff Joe Arpaio has said that on the day that the new law comes in effect which is on July 29th he will have his officers on the streets cracking down on illigal immigrants using the new law (SB-1070) as a tool. What i am proposing is to tell the latino community not to go to work, go to stores or help the Arizona economy in any way. That will give the state a taste of what it will happend if that law stays in effect. Also if no one goes out who will the officers arrest.

Ethnic Studies Week October 1-7
On May 13, the governor of Arizona signed Bill 2281 which banned the teaching of ethnic studies in the Arizona public schools. Mexican American and African American Studies courses in the Tucson Public schools were specifically targeted. On May 21, the Texas State Board of Education, an entity with undue influence over k-12 textbook content nationwide, passed a new set of conservative standards for social studies. Less publicized attacks on educators who examine race and ethnicity in their classrooms are happening all over the country. May 30 – June 5, 100 educators met “virtually” and launched a national response. We teach in colleges and universities, k-12 schools, adult education programs, and cultural and political organizations. We are also independent artists, authors and educators. We are from across the United States. Here is the list of initiators. We have proclaimed October 1-7 2010, Ethnic Studies Week. We are asking people in schools and in communities, to do what might amount to civil disobedience in the Arizona public schools: participate in public Ethnic Studies events and engage in education censored by the Texas State Board of Education. We invite you to join us. Start planning activities!

In a few days there will be an interactive website at ethnicstudiesweek.org where you can post your endorsements and events. If you are an educator and would like to become an initiator contact winkl002@umn.edu To "attend" Ethnic studies week, Connect to Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=122173884477307 Support Ethnic Studies in Arizona.
