All activist groups fighting for Social Justice in San Diego are invited to march with SAME this year, Saturday July 17th--please meet us at 10AM in zone "G"--we are contingent number 52. SAME wants to reflect the level of diversity of the movements that we have worked with and supported in the last year and half. <BR><B><BR>Immigrants Rights:</B><BR>On May 1 in both 2009 and 2010, we marched for immigrants rights and against deportations. Our slogan was, "No Human is Illegal; No Love is Illegal!" SAME has also marched in the Cesar Chavez parade, and we were received with smiles and waves when we chanted, "Gay, straight, nimodo! Eguales somos todos!" Most recently, SAME drew a contingent of 12 people, and rented a van, to caravan to Phoenix on May 29th to protest Arizona's racist, anti-immigrant SB1070. Our chant: "Gay, Straight, BROWN, WHITE! All deserve the SAME RIGHTS!"<BR><BR><B>Anti-War:</B><BR>On the anniversary of the start of the Iraq war last year, SAME helped mobilize people from the LGBT community to the corner of 5th & University for a march that headed east down University and then south down Park Blvd for a rally featuring Cindy Sheehan, who then joined SAME for a discussion about civil disobedience in the event that the court did not overturn Prop 8 (at the time when the ACLU's challenge to the CA Supreme Court was still pending). This anti-war march was well-received by onlookers eating their meals along University Ave, while we chanted, "Stand UP! And GET DOWN! There's an anti-war movement in THIS TOWN!" <BR><B><BR>Education:</B><BR>On March 4th, SAME also marched as a contingent alongside students, teachers, and other activists fro the community protesting the budget cuts to education. We carried our banner with the chant, "Gay, straight, Black, white: Education is a RIGHT!" For SAME, education as a right means LGBT youth need to feel safe in their schools, as well. When Westborough Baptist Church came to town spewing their anti-gay hate (most famously, "God hates fags"), SAME and other LGBT organizations mobilized around 400 community members and students to demonstrate outside San Diego High School against the 8 sad members of the WBC family. <BR><BR><B>Against Racism:</B><BR>Yesterday, a handful of SAME activists joined a gathering to react to the verdict in the trial of BART Police Officer Mehrsle, who murdered Oscar Grant on New Years' Eve more than a year ago, and who stand to get off on simple probation for "involuntary manslaughter." SAME members have demonstrated to call for Justice for Troy Davis, and man who still stands on death row for a murder of a police officer which evidence shows he did not commit.<BR><B><BR>Safety in Places of Faith:</B><BR>SAME has worked closely with faith leaders and churches, synagogues, and other places of worship who support the right of LGBT people to move safely and openly in their houses of faith. When the Skyline Church in La Mesa decide to hold an "ex-gay" conference (taking money from LGBT people open to hearing a misleading case for how they could be "welcomed" into right-wing houses of worship--by refusing to be gay), SAME demostrated outside the church to honks and cheers, carrying signs that read, "Homophobia is child abuse," and chanting, "Hey Jim Garlow! Let our people GOOO!!!"<BR><BR><B>Solidarity with Labor:</B><BR>SAME's relationship with UNITE-HERE Local 30 in the Boycott of the anti-union, anti-gay Manchester Hyatt hotel is well known--SAME & Local 30 have worked closely to plan demonstrations and picket lines asking people to boycott a hotel which forces its workers to clean twice as many rooms per day as unionized hotel workers do. But SAME has also passed strict resolutions against crossing the picket line when Old Town's Fiesta de Reyes and Barra Barra were under boycott by the same union--in spite of the fact the the owner of the hotel gave money to gay groups and claimed to be "a friend of the gays." For SAME, solidarity would not be broken. You cannot be a friend of the gays and an enemy to the working class of which gays are a part.<BR><BR>In light of our solidarity with calls from freedom and equal rights to people everywhere, SAME will march this year with a banner that reads:<BR><BR>
